Strange Smell!

We have a ‘sun room’ off our kitchen which we currently don’t use but it leads to the garage.
We moved in a couple of months ago and it’s just became a storage room for things we haven’t yet found a home for.
There is a radiator in the room which doesn’t work. We had a plumber look at it and I can’t remember what he said exactly but he couldn’t get it working and mentioned something about draining the whole heating system? As its Winter, we said we’d leave it till the Summer rather than risk upsetting the rest of the radiators. Underneath the radiator is very exposed and you can see all sorts of pipes, some wooden board, some wallpaper and the brickwork of what would have been the original outer wall.
However that’s not my query! I have noticed a strange smell in the room and I’m not sure what it is. It sort of a stale musty almost wet dog smell. As it leads to the garage and one wall is made up of windows/French doors and there’s no heating its freezing and practically like being outside so I’m wondering is the smell due to lack of heat and life in the room?
When you go into the garage that has a different smell altogether which is more of your traditional garage smell!
We did also have a wasps nest above the area which we left as we assumed they just die off and never use the same nest again if the smell could be down to that?
We keep the door shut and you only get the smell when you enter that room. I’m also wondering if it’s just my imagination!

My guess is it’s just got a little damp and fusty with the recent mild humid weather. My garden room is the same. I think garages have more ventilation and fewer things that can get a bit smelly. Have you got a lot of cardboard boxes in them? They can be a bit pongy when the humidity is high.0
