Hi,
We had a new bathroom fitted and a day later quite a lot of water has come through the ceiling in the room below. The ceiling is bowed and the water has damaged the pc and other things.
Is the company responsible for replacing the damaged items as well as fixing the ceiling?

It depends. If you overflowed the bath, for example, that's your mistake. If you have used the bathroom normally and there is a leak, it's theirs. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

Unless you have signed a contract limiting the amount of consequential damages that you can claim, the company can be sued for all the costs of fixing the ceiling and the items damaged. The company can arrange for your items to be repaired or replaced.
You have a responsibility to limit the damage, e.g. by turning the PC off the moment you saw the water coming through, and not using the bathroom in a way that would cause the leak to occur.
Try not to approach the contractor in an angry or confrontational manner. Introduce them to the problem slowly to alllow them time to consider what the corrrect response is. It is reasonable to expect them to prioritise your repairs over other work they have scheduled. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Their public liability insurance should cover it.0
