Ebay item not as described & charged for return

Hi

Can anyone help with ebay's latest version of the return system?

I bought an item for £3.95 (inc p&p)
The item is not correct (it's and electrical item which doesn't fit what it is listed as fitting)
I have followed ebay's process to contact the seller and request a return as the item is not correct.
If I use the return label provided I will be charged £3.05
If I don't use the return label I will have to pay for return
If I don't return the item ebay will close the case

But according to ebay "If the item was not as described, the seller is responsible for paying return postage costs."

  • It sounds like you used the option "doesn't fit" as in clothing, instead of "not as described."

Yes, it sounds like you chose the wrong option. You could try and ring eBay to explain you misunderstood the terminology and see if they are able to change the type of case. Failing that, you can close the case and open one in Paypal. Use Paypal Returns On Us for help with returns postage.

My seller failed to supply a returns label for a faulty item, phoned ebay and they supplied one instead. Presume the seller will get the bill for that.

    Hi

Thanks for the replies, out of the available options I chose:

I received an item that wasn't as described

Ebay then provided a return label which it tells me will cost be £3.05 if I use it.

    That's a glitch then.

Unless you are outside the 30 day returns period?

If you are less than 30 days, give eBay a ring and ask them what is going on.

Just being a pedant here....the PO would NOT ask you for money. The label is always prepaid when supplied by eBay. The difference is, the seller is billed/has already paid or the buyer is billed (on their monthly invoice) once the label is used.

Yeah, the label provided by ebay was pre-paid. Just dropped it off at the PO and got proof of postage. Probably not needed as it automatically tracks on ebay anyway.

Wonder what the seller will say when he gets the bill for that?

    The website says:
Print a return label and dispatch the item back to the seller by 19 Dec, 2018. You'll be charged £3.05 through PayPal if you use this return label.
