2017 CDTI Zafira very poor fuel economy

Good morning,
Little bit of advice for a novice please! We purchased a 2017 Zafira Tourer 1600 CDTI in April this year and lately we've noticed the fuel economy seems to have gone through the floor - according to the display it's returning around 40MPG but even that seems optimistic, the car is going through £50 a week on fuel.
Any ideas where to start investigating this? Suggestions would be appreciated.

what sort of mileage do you get for £50 per week0

The trip computers in most cars aren't reliable indicators of consumption. The best way to check is to do a full-to-full measurement. Fill up until the pump clicks off , record the mileage and the next time you fill up, do the same. You have an accurate mpg figure.
You've not stated how many miles you're doing in a week. If it's lots of short journeys and trips in stop-start traffic, you will see a rise in consumption, especially in winter when you've probably got demisters, lights, wipers, heaters, etc all on.0 -
Honestjohn seems to think people are only really getting about 49mpg in the real world:

Start with the driver and the journey type and driving style.
Fairly heavy car with a 1.6 engine. OK its diesel but still a small engine for the car size/weight.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Typical journey time / length is important, and not provided. A weekly cost for fuel is meaningless without context - for example I used about 50p worth of diesel last week whereas you used £50. That doesn't mean my diesel vehicle is 100 times as efficient as yours, it means I did three miles in it to collect something big from screwfix that wouldn't fit in my car.
At this time of year, unless you are doing long journeys fuel consumption will fall as the temperature is cold and the time that the engine is not up to full temperature will increase as a proportion of the total journey.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

Absolutely pointless statement without any context.
If that is £50 popping to the shops & back a couple of times a week that's ridiculous.
If it's doing 600 miles steady motorway driving it's pretty good.0 -

The car is doing roughly 300 miles for around £50 of diesel - although obviously this is approximate. The driving is pretty mixed but I'd say it leans toward more duel-carriageway driving.
Thanks!0 -
£50 of diesel at the current average £1.33/litre is 37.6 litres or 8.35 gallons.
At 30mpg, that's 250 miles.
At 40mpg, that's 335 miles.
At 50mpg, that's 418 miles.
At 60mpg, that's 500 miles.
So how far are you covering in the week...?
Are you paying significantly more than that national average price?
Also - it's cold currently. Modern diesels are so thermally efficient that they often have a second heater, which burns diesel directly, to heat the interior.
Edit: Posts crossed, but 300 miles from £50, assuming that average fuel price, is 36mpg. That does seem fairly low. Given that it should still be in warranty, what do the dealer say?0 -

Thanks for the response! I suppose the dealer will be the next port of call, although I have a feeling they'll write it off as 'driving style' and be done with it.
I posted on her just to get a general idea before moving forward.0
