Changing house from 4 to 3 bed, tax reduction?

We're thinking of possibly knocking through 2 small-ish bedrooms to create one bigger bedroom and an en-suite. Quick question, if/when done, can we apply to reduce our council tax seeing as the house will be one bedroom less? It's not a deal breaker whether we do it or not, just curious as I've always thought number of bedrooms affects which tax band you are in.

I think you can challenge your council tax band and ask for a revaluation. The band is based on the value at 1991 prices, not the number of bedrooms.
If you think you have reduced the value of your house then maybe you can get a lower banding.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
I'd keep in mind the value could go up as well as down!0

Such a change will not allow you to reduce Council Tax!0

Our next door neighbour knocked through a bedroom and dining room in his bungalow.
He doesn't have a reduction. However, I think he has lost a considerable amount of value in the place since it has two large living rooms, but only two bedrooms.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
