Penalised for named driver having a non fault accident

I have Fleet insurance for 3 vans, which are driven by myself and 2 named drivers. One of the named drivers was involved in a non fault accident where she was hit from behind while stationary. The driver that hit her claimed on his insurance for the damage to his car as well as the damage to my van.
Since then I've changed insurance companies for the vans, declared the accident and accepted the slight bump in price for the named driver involved. However, my husband has recently bought a new car and he answered that I haven't made any claims or been involved in any accidents in the last 5 years.

Since then he has been sent a letter from admiral saying that they've discovered that I've 'recently made a claim' the cost to insure me as a named driver on his car will be over £100 more expensive than they originally quoted.
So my questions are:

Why is it deemed that I've made a claim, even though it was the driver at fault that made the claim?

Why does the insurance company now see me as higher risk when I wasn't driving at the time of the accident?

Is there any point in disputing it?

Thanks in advance for any answers... First Post so feel free to be kind!

  • Lyd, welcome. It's all about the exact wording on the question. It's worth looking back at it. You have made a claim under a policy in your own or perhaps company name haven't you? Actually it shouldn't really have much impact as it was non fault and not you driving. Well worth talking to Admiral about it

A remarkably ill-considered allegation to make to a newbie. It's quite clear that the OP has not (it's actually stated twice), and that this is the main point of her post. Unsurprisingly perhaps, she logged out 20 minutes after your reply and hasn't been seen since.

Presumably because the fleet insurance is in your name and when he answered that you haven't made any claims or been involved in any accidents in the last 5 years, he forgot about the accident that you mentioned.

Admiral is one insurer that bumps up premiums after just one non-fault accident. It claims it is justified in doing so because those involved in one are more likely to be involved in another accident later on.....‘Our claims statistics show customers who have had a non-fault claim are more likely to make a claim in the future, compared with customers who have not had a non-fault claim.'

Doubt that not liking the message and blaming the messenger is the reason she logged out

Her question was answered (correctly), so no need to stay any longer!
