Help with IHT Forms

I'm filling out the inheritance tax forms and I can't figure out where these two investments should go:

Aviva Portfolio Bond
Barclays Portfolio ISA

Could be under IHT411 "listed stocks, shares and investments" but they are not listed on the Stock Exchange Daily List. I don't see that they are IHT410 "life assurance and annuities", and I can't see that they fall under IHT412 "traded unlisted and unlisted shares".

Or is it one of the above? Or do they just go as "other assets" on IHT400?

Any help very much appreciated!

  • Both those products are wrappers that will contain a number of assets, and it is the nature of those assets which dictates where they need to be declaired. The most likely assets will be funds which will be classed as unit trusts so go in the shares section. If there are more exotic investments held then they may need to go elsewhere.

The IHT400 notes document tells you what type of investments go where.
  • I've recently done an IHT 400 where there was a stocks and shares ISA and listed this on IHT411, and box 63 of IHT 400. Probate has been granted, so presumably this was right!
I found the HMRC IHT and probate helpline really helpful when I had queries about the forms.
