Monzo Crowd funding

  • it discusses how to improve UX via analytics, and how to leverage good UX to raise funding from your userbase. nothing about how to use good UX to make the business profitable, or anything else about how to make it profitable. but in the end, the company either has to make a profit, or to die.

or a big bank buys monzo because they want the technology. which could be the strategy. the idea must have crossed the founders' minds, but i don't know whether they're counting on it.

or perhaps the point is that fundraising from users, which may allow the earlier investors to cash out at a profit. mostly, there is no free lunch, unless you are the lunch :)

or is the point that, even if investors lose money, they've had a good UX? which counts for more than making money on your investments, right? :)

I guess we'll see how it pans out with Monzo. And I'm still on the gee gees. Just had a 16/1 winner in the 12.20 so all good thanks!
and how are your overall results on the gee gees? not losing money overall, i hope? and i'm sure you have complete records, so you know your overall winnings/losings, right?

personally, i'm well ahead. never placed a bet at a bookmakers, but sold my william hill shares for c. 68% more than i bought them for. and the dividends are on top of that. i should really work out the overall total return, and IRR. i would need to dig out some figures to do that. it is probably not that great, compared to what stock markets generally have done over the same period, but anyway it's made some money.

we seem to have different approaches to this :)

One of the first lessons in business is if you dont understand the business model, dont invest in it. I think you have answered your own questions. Stick with the horses :-)

I'm really surprised at how negative most of you are being.

I think it's very easy to get caught up in the poop emojis and #YOLOs of Monzo's customer service and marketing, but I've personally found it quite grating.

I prefer my bank to be as boring as possible, not treat me like I'm 10 years old!
  • Same... I was one of the first to invest in Punk IPA. Wish I'd invested in Mikkeller
I didn't realise BrewDog let folk invest just in just one of their beer ranges. When did they do this?
