If you(parents) own the house, are HMRC asking if they(daughter) pays rent?
No the letter is addressed to our daughter, at our address, (because that's their last known address for her, she's not told them she's moved out) and it says "We hold information relating to landlords and we have reason to believe that you receive or have previously received rents from the letting of property. We are unable to find any record that this income has been notified to HMRC for taxation purposes".0 -

(please try to ignore that we as taxpayers are now called  "customers" in this PC world we live in)

bear in mind HMRC can get a "bit" intrusive if they get annoyed:

and "having" s - e - x is no longer a factor

and in the context of the £300 this is rather relevant

My first thought was is the boyfriend claiming something as a lodger when they are in reality cohabiting .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

It sounds as though she needs to tell HMRC of her change of address as this is what has caused the query.
Why would she need to keep her parents home address if she owns another property?0 -
"Why would she need to keep her parents home address if she owns another property"
She doesn't need to, obviously, but like many busy young women, telling HMRC she doesn't live with her parents any more has never come in the top 100 things she's going to spend her spare time doing. She picks up any letters when she comes round. I'd like to hazard a guess she's not unusual in doing this!
She'll change it now it appears it may be causing a problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, I think my original post covers the situation, there's no deception going on at all.0
