Get a couple more quotes, work out how much it will be worth with and without the damage and make a call. Believe it or not, some cars sell quicker on ebay with the word "damaged" in the title....I once struggled to sell a MK3 Golf VR6 years ago, I ended up writing "stolen recovered" and took the spare wheel out and the phone was red hot ! Sold within a few days for the same price.

If you decide to leave it, can you disguise the scratches with a permanent black marker pen?

My car's almost black and for some reason the undercoat is white so scratches and marks show up easily. A few minutes with a marker pen and it's good as new. I have to redo it each time it's washed though, so twice a year.

Op I went to a loca spray painter after getting help via these forums.
I had a similar single storey car park dink -scraping drivers rear wheel arch.
Think I paid 250 -though I avoided chips away -at least I got exact colour pant match.
Seems nice enough and was going to be accepted for trade in with original dealership mid 2018 (until my new purchase fell through)
I avoided +575 replace panel quote at the time -remove doors etc and new panel re painted -no way. Could be that cash raised -my 250 repair/re paint is an excellent job by local painter -honestly use google and start calling local painters -take the car and get them to offer quotes.

For £750 repair cost, with replacing the panel being discussed as an option, we are not talking simple paint damage.

Is the wife's car on lease or PCP, this has a bearing on how good the repair has to be.

Oh just to add. Yes it seems expensive to me.

How many panels are damaged? Who are you going to.

I srcaped my OH's car once and had to get the panel replaced. And it was well under £1000. However that is becuase I went to a sensible place and got their non insurance costs. And yes that was with paint matching and you could not notice. Was a few years back so I would expect around £100 now, however you do not mention the car as well as where you went to get the quote.

A grand for replacing a bolt-on panel, such as a front wing? Sure.
A grand for replacing a welded rear wing that butts to bonded glass? No.

I doubt a £2500 car will be on lease or PCP.

As I was typing that question out it sounded very dodgy to me but wanted to get confirmation that it was.
You are suggesting altering the terms of the insurance policy, and then lying about the date of the accident so the insurance will pay instead of you.

Do you have to ask if that is dishonest?

    Seriously?
