Advice on switching suppliers

Options
Hi All

I moved to my address on the 20th of October. I asked my agent who my supplier was, and she said they'll send you a letter.
On the 5th of October, I went on holiday for two weeks, and returned on the 19th and found a letter from them. (That's a month! from moving in).

Then I realised the supply is with a supplier that I really don't want to give my address to*. I requested a change of supplier, but just had a call with the new supplier, and they said, they'll only be able to bill me from the time the supply had successfully changed, and not from the move in date.

Before I call the existing supplier, does anyone have any experience in something similar where they still managed to get the new supplier to bill them? Or any other advise before I give the existing supplier my address?

(I know curiosity will kick in... the reason I don't want to give them my address is because I contracted for them before, and was harassed by phone from one of the employees for 6 months persistently (after I left the company) until I changed my number 8 months ago, I live alone, very anxious about this, and don't have anyone else who can take over the bill)

The rule is that you must register with the dwellings current supplier when you move in, giving them the date of occupancy and meter readings.

Only when they have established an account for you, are you free to Switch to another supplier

I can understand your attitude if you've had problems with the encumbant supplier in the past, but in reality the moment you turned on a light switch or boiled a kettle when moving in, you owed this company money

Did you take a meter reading when you moved in?

Instead of asking your agent, perhaps you should have found out for yourself, via ofgem?
