Oki toners

Options
I have always made a point of buying original Oki toners for my laser printers. I needed to move a toner from one printer to another (identical models), toner read 50% full on the original machine, but empty (0%) on the recipient machine. Oki's response, was "that's right, it's meant to do that", no further explanation, technical or otherwise. Question 1 - does anyone know around this, question 2, surely that is unfair protectionism, isn't it?

Most probably a chip that gets read on the cartridge which effectively ties it to one unit, so you feed it to another device it'll claim to be empty.

Sometimes if you just shove it in and print with it it'll suddenly decide it's half full again.

As to unfair protectionism, no different to the practice of the printer whinging about non genuine cartridges, surely? It's Oki's printer they make the rules.
