Good morning everyone, lovely to read of Christmas trees and decs going up. It's very foggy here, not sure if the Sunday stroll will happen, if not we'll meet for a cuppa.
Yesterday I was given at short notice, three complimentary tickets to a Christmas fair at Hopetoun House, a stately home near South Queensferry. Two friends could come at short notice, and we spent two very enjoyable hours there. It was very interesting to see the public parts of the house and admire the architecture, historical artefacts and the stunning views. We will probably pay a visit next summer on a weekday when it will be quieter, and have a guided tour.
Back in the real world, food today will be leek and kale soup from the freezer, not a great success despite following a recipe, but I'm dutifully using it up and it's no doubt very nutritious. Chicken this evening.
Glad you were cosy overnight, Gers. I have an electric blanket also, it's a bit with the cat too.
Have a good day everyone. Hugs to poorlies carers and careworn. xxx0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need them.
Not long out of bed, our usual Sunday brekkie in bed. The weather is a bit iffy, OH tells me it is not going to rain, but we are having sun, then dark clouds and very grey sky........washing sorted for tomorrow when, OH tells me, it is going to rain all day, so the dryer will be on. Its very efficient dries most loads in 30 minutes and does not seem to add much to the weekly readings.
I managed to get the binding put on two mats yesterday, going to try for 2 more today, I have to give up about 3.30pm the room gets too dark, so I draw the curtains and shut the door.
Pork for supper tonight with veggies, the jelly I made yesterday was a bit tart, told OH to put a bit of sugar on, it was not sweet enough for him. Enough jelly for today and tomorrow.0 -
Morning all
It's a grey day again and we're due rain later. It seems we've only had one sunny morning this week, blink and you'd have missed it ! I hate it when it's like this.
I made my Xmas list for food yesterday and I've already got most of it, there will be only the fresh stuff to buy nearer the time :j.
I've still got a few presents to get ( mainly the adults and especially Mr Fix It ) but I'm at a loss as to what to get. I'll have a trawl on the tinternet for ideas
Anyway on to today and as it's Sunday ( yay ! I remembered what day it is :rotfl: ) Dad is due over for lunch and tea. We are having roast pork, roast potatoes and parsnips, honey roast carrots and petit pois. Tea will be a selection of sandwiches, followed by apple pie and ice cream. Dad wants us to change the dressing on his wrist too, so will have to put my nurses hat on.
I had my first Christmas card yesterday from my friend who lives near Folkestone. She has sent it early as she is going in for an op on her bladder ( a tumour removal ) so please send her healing vibes. It's ironic as she has just had the 5 year all clear for breast cancer.
Right the veggies are prepped and the oven is on. Now I must go and feed the Xmas cakes, shame I don't like brandy or it may be one for them and one for me !:rotfl:
Holly I'm thinking of you. Chin up my friend.
TA sounds like a busy time ahead ballerina shuffling.
Organza Lace I hope you get rid of that cough soon.
Tru thanks for the song and good news for Roxy.
Sending positive vibes today and hugs to all. Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Morning all! No headache from last night, only had three drinks, and a load of nibbles. The sausage rolls and christmas tree bake thing came out alright and were all eaten, so they can't have been that bad. Got a happy birthday sing son and a cake between me and one of my friends [not my bithday yet, it's halfway between both of ours ] Ate lemon cake for breakfast.
Was going to go to a craft fair this morning. haven't got dressed yet though...OH is snoring away, when he gets up, might send him to fetch a tree with his mate.
The advent calendar gave me an apricot truffle this morning.
Am planning on getting the chest freezer moved today and some throwing out of junk, I have done a complete about turn on things that will 'come in useful' to 'get rid of the things that might come in useful, they won't' much to the OH's surprise. And will watch Materchef catchups after.
Also nice to hear of trees and twinkly lights, I love Christmas, I love the twinklies and the trees, the smells, mulled wine, cheese etc etc.
Have a good Sunday if you can
P.S Happy Anniversary for yesterday dumpling!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Well, I got myself up (ggrrrr), cleared out some food in the freezer which looked burnt, loaded up the car with the waste and a huge pile of accumulated cardboard and took it all to the tip.
On the way home I dropped into the little local superemarket to buy some ingredients for the Hairy Bikers baked cheesecake. They don't stock ameratti biscuits so bought some biscotti instead. The Amaretto was the most expensive item though it'll do a lot more cakes.
The cheesecake is now in the oven :j it's an hour to cook and then it stays in the switched off oven for about 3 hours. That's my day done then!
I just took a notion to try this, it's pretty easy to make, one bowl and electric mixer. Let's hope it's tasty.
My reading material for now is series of spy novels by Mick Herron, he writes in a sligthly odd manner which takes some getting used to, however the books are very entertaining. I'm on the second one.
Dishwasher has been on and emptied and refilled again! I thought Sunday was a day of rest??:rotfl:
WeeMidge - Hopetoun House is a beautiful place, I haven't been though it's on my list along with Dumfries House. Maybe next Spring / Summer.
Off to rest now until the oven has to be switched off.0 -
Another late post from me & not because I’ve been too busy :rotfl:
Another Damp & dreary day but I didn’t have to go out :T
DH has topped up the bird feeders & refilled the squirrel feeder. A bit of good news - DH got a refund for the broken fat log holder & didn’t have to return it :j So he has drilled a hole in the top & screwed in a hook. Now full of fat logs & hanging from the bird feeder stand. Very MSE of him :money: He is currently painting a coat of white paint on the bathroom walls. I have been doing
a bit of baking - a fruit cake, a batch of coconut biscuits & a batch of choc chip biscuits.
Today we each had a pint mug of the vegetable soup I made a few days ago - very tasty & there is enough left for half a mug each tomorrow
Thanks for starting us off nmlc. Nothing wrong with a restful weekend
ScarletRibbons, sounds like you had some lovely family time
tru, thanks for the carol :T. I should just tell Mr tru that Christmas dinner is fish & pasties with sprouts of course :rotfl: Lovely news about the rescue dog.
dumpling, maybe Lilly has an infection & could need antibiotics? I like that you are the supervisor re freezer inventory
LaineyT, I hope you enjoyed the ‘Light up a Life’ ceremony - it sounds beautiful
TA, sorry you need to cut corners. I bet the grand children will be keeping you busy next week & I hope all the arrangements flow smoothly
dp1, :T on the Christmas present shopping :T Very nice that your DD is now more comfortable - the baby just wanted to be noticed
Olliebeak, it is nearly Christmas :rotfl: or is Bobster always a delight ?
Nelski, hope you didn’t gambol around too much today :rotfl: Sorry to hear Holly is feeling so low, but pleased that she is still with her brother. Please give her my best wishes when you next speak to her.
Gers, venison  if you don’t have enough freezer space I am more than happy to take some off your hands :rotfl: Can I come round for cheesecake :rotfl:
Bozwood, no tree for me & DH - DSis is most upsetOur Christmas decorations consist of two bits of string across the wall with the Christmas cards :rotfl: Bah humbug & all that :rotfl:
WeeMidgie, complimentary tickets - how lovely. Nice to be flexible with your time
csarina, well done on the sewing - you really are cracking on
Organza_Lace, so much coughing - please take care of yourself - lots of hot honey & lemon drinks - I was going to say served to you by Grump but that would be foolish
nannywindow, you put me to shame - no special foods bought yet for Christmasneed to pull my finger out :rotfl: sending lots of healing vibes to your friend - life can be so cruel.
-taff, can I pinch your idea re ‘the useful things’ - I think I will write it on a large piece of paper & carry it around with me :rotfl:
I will try harder, I WILL try harder, I WILL TRY harder, I WILL TRY HARDER to post earlier each day
