O/S Daily Sunday 2nd December 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Still dark, looks damp underfoot but not cold.

DH and I are enjoying first peaceful cuppas - all is quiet from the boys rooms, so don't expect to see them any time soon.

Dinner last night was a cook from frozen chicken joint, with pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce, onion rings and peas. Ice cream/cake for dessert for those that wanted some. Today we're having roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, green beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy.

We were lazy yesterday and just chilled and watched some tv. Today will be similar but I'll just be getting organised for the week ahead, as everything is back to normal and back to work.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks NMLC, for starting off.

    It's damp here, that's all I know!!

We've had a busy Friday and Saturday with the family visiting, but it's been very nice, if a bit chaotic. It seems to have become a tradition that the first Saturday in December is tree day, with a banquet served after the tree is done.

On Friday we got all the Christmas stuff out of the loft and put up other decorations, leaving the tree ready to be done on Saturday.

I cooked as as much as I could on Friday, the fridge was stuffed, but it saves a bit of stress when they're here.

The Christmas tree is up, other decorations are in place, and it all looks very nice, well, we think so!!

I've skimmed through the last two days threads, glad to see Mrs TA is posting.

I'll pop back later I think, in the meantime hope everyone has good days.

    Take care folks

    Morning :santa2:

So pleased to hear that Roxy Dog, who had been at Scamp's rescue centre for almost eight years, was adopted yesterday. It made my day :D

I chopped up a lot of small branches yesterday. I think I have enough room near the house to drag the rest up from the chicken run. The run needs a good raking then I can start to spread the bits in there, it depends on the weather though so I'll see how it goes.

I have a bit of tidying to do then we'll go for a walk. My blanket is coming along nicely, I'll do a few more rows this afternoon while catching up with a couple of recorded programs.

Mr tru was moaning about the lack of freezer space, saying there's no room for the turkey, etc. I pointed out the almost-two-drawers of chillies, the ton of fish he brought back from Cornwall in OCTOBER and all the pasties, also brought back from Cornwall. Now I do understand, a little bit, about the cornish food because it's from specific places and you just can't get the same anywhere else. I have actually warned family that they might be eating fish and pasties with a bit of salad and french bread when they come round :D I usually have most of the food by now so I'm a bit miffed. Mr tru has promised to sort it out quickly, not sure how he's going to do that unless he seriously overeats for the next week :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you nmlc for starting us off this morning :). I have been up for a little while but poor Lilly has been up for hours with raging toothache. I will ring the dentist tomorrow and see if I can get her an emergency appointment. She has been in pain on and off for a few weeks now but didn't want to go to see the dentist but i think she is willing to reconsider now.

I had a lovely anniversary apart from the stress that is 'putting up the decs'. At one point I was ready to kick over the tree and have a major tantrum but we got through it without too much squabbling and bickering . It now looks lovely and twinkly in the living room.
Steve cooked us a nice dinner and we watched rubbish on the tv whilst holding hands on the sofa.

We are going to do a freezer inventory today and sort out what can be used up before Christmas. I will be ready with my clipboard and pen while Steve does all the legwork. I would like to sort out the cupboards too as there are many hidden treasures been shoved to the back I am sure.

Apart from that we are having a nice chilled day. Steve is cooking toad in the hole for lunch and hopefully we will find time to play a board game with the kids later on.

Hope you all have a lovely peaceful Sunday, take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Ah, that’s lovely news on the rescue dog TRU new home at last.
It’s all very quiet and peaceful here, Tilly is having a snooze in her basket after an early breakfast, DOH is having a very rare lie-in and I’m enjoying the first cuppa of the day.
The only plans we have for the day is later when the hospice that looked after darling Mum is having it’s “Light up a Life” ceremony, we went last year and it was very emotional but also uplifting, they have a brass band playing carols and various readings etc, all done around their big tree filled with lights, each one dedicated to a previous patient.

Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday, take care folks x
  • Morning folks. Been up since silly o'clock as usual, bah. Just been doing the new months banking. A lot less money to play about with now and corners will need to be cut in the new year.

A busy week ahead with much childminding to be done. DD and bf are off to Munich for the Xmas markets. They actually booked it last January before things here changed and they were going to cancel it but I insisted they still go. It's taken some sorting out who can have the girls when and who can take "Margot" and "Darcey" to their rehearsals every day but we got there in the end! It's all planned with military precision but I know she will still spend their days away worrying!

So all 3 girls are here from lunchtime today and sleeping over till the rota kicks in tomorrow lunchtime. I hope nobody lets it all down. The fridge is stuffed with snacks and goodies for the daily pack ups needed for the rehearsals.

Have a nice day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care xx

    Morning everyone
I went to Newcastle with youngest DD yesterday....it was a good day and I bought all the Christmas presents I needed, but it got very busy after lunchtime. By the time it was time to go back to the station we were both quite happy to come home! We had a really nice lunch at a place called Tapas Revolution, it was really tasty and nice to have something different.
Youngest DD is feeling a lot better and isn't in so much pain now so baby must have moved off the nerve she was lying on. She went back to work on Friday but is working less hours than usual for the first week till she sees how she manages.
Well I'd better get moving as I have jobs to do before I go down to spend time with dad whilst mam is at church. Hope everyone has a good day.
  • Good Morning , Oldstylers. A bit overcast, but dry, at the moment outside - unfortunately, it doesn't look as though it'll improve much this afternoon .................. we've got rain forecast :(. Never mind though, it could be far worse.

nmlc - thanks for starting the thread for todayd :T. Have a lovely, restful day and enjoy your week in work :).
ScarletRibbons - sounds like Christmas is getting underway in your house :j! Enjoy your day.#
tru - how lovely for Roxy to find 'a forever home' just before Christmas :T. Hope Mr Tru enjoys his 'freezer sort-out' ;).
dumpling - Happy Anniversary to you both, dumpling! Hope Lilly's tooth is sorted out quickly .
LaineyT - sounds like the Hospice has got beauitful plans for their day :).
Travelling Abuela - enjoy your next few days with your DGD's - sounds as though much fun will be had ;).
dp1 - good to know that your DD is feeling 'more comfortable' now that the baby has shifted herself :). Enjoy your visit with your DDad.

((((Healing Hugs)))) for everybody who needs them and prayers for those who want them.

I've had a busy few days with Nathan-sitting and Bobster-minding, including your Christmas Cracker Event at the CS where I volunteer. Took Bobster to it yesterday and he was a little treasure. Lots of 'please and thank you's' to everybody's delight :j.

Only plan for today is to get some laundry done and then go to church this morning - 11.00am service. No shopping needed, so it will be straight back home afterwards :T.

Lunch could be Chicken for OH and Belly Pork for me - there's salad in the fridge and some baby potatoes that need using up at the moment.

    Morning :)

Feeling a little bit spring lamb like this morning :D 8 hours plus sleep ...cant remember the last time it was that much. need to make the most of it now so its house attack time after some more tea of course.

Yesterday was a usual Sat routine followed by a lazy pm on catch up.

Had some more liver for dinner with mash and peas. two more portions left so will pack them up to freeze. Its been so lovely I would happily eat it again tonight but 3 times is maybe a bit much :o
So doing a bacon butty for brunch then probably a fridge clear out for dinner with loads of salad left over ham cheese and some crusty bread. Not had to shop this week which is great and everything will be used up :)

Heard from Holly She has started the chemotherapy now so is
constantly tired and low :( They have scheduled her surgery for the 20th December which of course will mean no semblance of Christmas for her. She is thinking about refusing that date which I understand but equally her health is so much more important than Christmas. Hopefully her brother and surgeon will discuss with her the best option.

Right Im off ..Sunday brunch soon with advert cleaning :) Have a great day all :A

    Good morning everyone.

Cold, cloudy and damp here, Jura is hidden by low cloud, it may reappear later. It was lovely to be in my own bed last night even though my place was cold. Electric blanket soon helped me warm up and an extra duvet kept me warm all night. Before dark I brought in a load of logs so will be cosy today.

As the hazelnuts are being taken I assume that there's a red squirrel back for the winter. The nuts in the feeder haven't been touched for ages so I think it's a different individual from the one which knew how to lift the lid. I left a little pile out on Monday and there's no sign of them now, no leftover shells so there'll all have been buried. :j

I too need to sort out the chest freezer. A neighbour has a load of venison for me so the freezer has to be rearranged. It's in the back barn so I have to layer up to do it. Gloves too, that'll be fun!

Now I wish everyone a happy Sunday.

Morning everyone. We have the gas man here at the moment and the heating has now decided to work as it does for a time makes a horrible noise and gives up so we will see if he can fix it

Not a lot planned for today. We are going to put the tree up it’s too early for me to be honest but dd and dh really want it. Of course they are the ones to put it up but I am the one who ends up taking it down

Roast chicken for dinner and I need to sort my veg drawers in the fridge as somethings are getting left
