Mortgage provider taken over!

We took out our mortgage in 1988 with the Leeds building society. In 1995 the Leeds Merged with the Halifax. We managed to pay off our 25 year mortgage in just 15 years. Due to the timescale we now have very little paperwork relating to our Mortgage. With the change in provider, the lake of paperwork and the timescale, is it still possible to found out if there was any PPI and thereby possibly make a claim?

P.S We no longer live at the propery to which the mortgage relates as we moved 15 years ago.

  • You can ask Halifax.

However, the chances of them having records, combined with the low chances of you having had PPI, with the even lower chances of it having been mis sold means you may want to keep your expectations low should you make a complaint.

If you bought the PPi via Leeds, you can refer your complaint to Halifax. If you bought the PPI via an adviser/broker/estate agent or solicitor then you give up now as 1988 is 17 years prior to regulation.

    Did you actually have PPI?
