Nice idea but I can guess how that conversation would go.

The 30 days in which I am legally entitled to a full refund is up tomorrow...

Did any of the subsequent rep's take your details? You've informed them about it within the 30 days, that should stop the clock. Perhaps follow up with an email to C/S to put it in writing so there's no dispute about when they were told later?

Yes will do that thanks. And yes - a subsequent rep took all the details and entered it on the system. You know how it is though - this data usually goes conveniently missing when it supports the customer rather than the company.

Well my guess would be "I'm sorry sir - we can only deal with the products we sold here at the branch. For online orders you need to call customer services. Thank you for being a wonderful customer - bye bye now."

The website says you can return items to any store, so guess that means the stores will deal with your issue.

It’s better to be as proactive as possible

With all these retailers closing, why is Curry's (and their reputation) still with us?

Sorry for rubbing salt into your wound but this is how my last dealing with Currys went.

A few years ago, I purchased a new Chest freezer. It arrived damaged, which I spotted on delivery. They took it straight back and told me to phone and tell them to arrange another.

It was now out of stock. I was told it would be a few weeks till new stock came in.I agreed to wait.

A new one eventually arrived, no damage, good or so I thought. I left it for 48 hours as instructed before I plugged it in and switched on. I waited until it was up to temperature and put my frozen food in.

The following day it had packed in and defrosted all my food. I had enough, phoned, and asked for a refund. They refused, as an engineer had to come out and inspect it first. I told them I had taken 3 days off already and refused to take more.

They refused to refund until they had a returns number from the manufacturers. I decided to phone the manufactures and they said they did not need an engineer to see it and gave me the number, which I passed to Currys Head Office.

After that, the freezer was uplifted and was told once it got back to the depot I should receive my refund in 7 days.

About 3 weeks later and many phone calls chasing I finally got it.

I purchased one from John Lewis it came with a longer guarantee, which has long since expired and it has been working perfect since purchased.

My advice, do not accept a replacement. Insist on a refund now and buy elsewhere. I recommend John Lewis.
