It might be down 5% tomorrow too, and maybe the monaday, teh tuesday and it might drop 3% on the wed. Then it might go up 5% on the thursday.

I fail to see any depth to this its like saying the sky is red at the moment, so what?

It just means that not every stock in the mining sector is in euphoria mode right now which i think this thread implied.
  • I think your failing to understand the stock market. Short term volatility is part of the course if your saying the bull is not affecting BHP because of a 5% drop then your failing to notice its stocks gone up 60% in less then a year ie £10,000 is now £16,000. If you buy a stock this week and sell it next you are 9/10 more likely to lose money due to the bid spreads.

This is a big company too, takes a enormous amount of money to shift the price.

The thread was originally about Gold and we're still waiting for a reason, from the OP or anyone else, to commit new money to Gold
  • If you want to lean about this sort of investing read books, but for those that understand what im talking about DYOR cost models and risk analysis. I am not by any means saying that all commodities stocks are a way to riches.

Lets take as an example Joe Bloggs mining, him and his buddys mine gold which costs them $300 to produce, they sell there future years production on the futures market for $350 (the shorts). The gold prices goes up to $800 due to demand (jewelry + alternative form of money) it takes two years for this information to go through to the balance sheet right? as the end of year ones profits are only reflecting the first trade.

These new figures gives strange people who run equity funds and pension funds excitement, they shout down their faxa-ma-phones a loud prehistoric hunting call "buy, buy, buy" they then drag meat home to their family rather then their knuckles.

As strange as the world is im afraid this is what happends. If it doesnt interest you to research it then dont keep bugging people with lame questions. Why does there have to be a reason for everything you tell me the reason? Give me the reason? If your not going to tell me the reason for life and why the universe exists then your just lame and not worth talking to.
  • Gold at a new high $844

*Starts singing, "IM IN THE MONEY, IM IN THE MONEY, I GOT ALOT OF WHAT IT TAKES TO GET ALONG!"

Not only the gold stocks which will show an exponent increase in profits over fixed costs, I bought 3K of electronic gold in august, its now worth 4K.
