  • It is being taken away, but by the back door....slowly letting inflation eat it away is easier than taking the plunge and stopping it all together.

The same thing will happen to the winter fuel payment in time.

Not necessarily. In 2009/10 the Labour Government led by Gordon Brown increased the WFP to £300 as a bribe to the elderly electorate as there was a general election in the offering. What do you think will happen if Corbyn ever gets in?

iN 1995/96 Gordon brown reduced the value of the married couples tax allowance by £86. There was an outcry from pensioners and it was admitted he didn't take into account how the reduced allowance would affect pensioners .
But he could not increase it again so as a sop to them he introduced the winter fuel payment with a payment of £20 each.

Brown didn't become chancellor until 1997.
  • On another thread, there is a news article that it is being scrapped for those on UC but those on traditional benefits will still receive it. I'm guessing this may the last year of anyone getting it.

What makes you say that? I'm just curious, I don't get it anyway so makes no difference to me. I just presumed as they are switching everyone over to UC eventually that this would mean the £10 bonus would stop.

If you read what I said in post #10 above, you may understand why I say that. And pensioners are not being transferred to Universal Credit - we are a very vocal and voting group who wouldn't put up with all the nonsense those receiving UC are getting from the DWP and Government at the moment!
