Paying for French Property in Euros

I am buying a house in France and am trying to find the most efficient (and cheapest) way of sending Euros to the Notaire. I have heard about using a foreign exchange broker (moneycorp was a name I heard). Has any one experiences good or bad with this.

I've used HSBC and found them to be very good for sending money to Aus. Quite a while ago though.

If you want the payment to go through more easily, get the recipient's 'IBAN Number' and quote it when you set up the payment. It will make things a lot smoother.

Lots of 'previous' on this one if you look back. The answer is use one of the Foreign Exchange specialists who give a much higher rate than the banks (usually approaching Business ER) and also usually with no charges on top.

I used rationalFX, www.rationalfx.com/ to buy a house in France earlier this year, but registered with others as well so I could check ERs before each payment. I paid Notaire and set up and financed French bank account in this way.
  • We used www.hifx.co.uk and they gave a good rate of exchange for sums over 5000. We use another company for monthly transfers to pay the mortgage and bills and they are quite good. Can't remember their name at the minute but if you need monthly transfers let me know and I'll find out who they are.
