Moving House

I am moving house in the New Year to a new area nearer my children so that none of us have a marathon journey each time we want to visit plus I am not getting any younger and I envisage that in the next few years I shan't be able to work full time due to the onset of arthritis.
As I shall have to give up my job as a carer in Cornwall before I move and therefore will only have a very small maintenance payment to live on, does anyone know if I am eligible for UC whilst I job hunt? I am really hoping so as it will take a while to find something suitable that I can actually do. I am starting to struggle to carry out my duties now, which is a massive worry.
Any advice welcome.

Suggest you obtain some written evidence from say your Doctors that confirms that a health condition is preventing you or will prevent you from working as a carer. Otherwise the risk is that you are referred for a decision to be made that you voluntarily left employment, therefore opening up yourself to being sanctioned. By this I mean they say you cannot claim for 3 months. This might make it very difficult financially.

Before you move, I would suggest you investigate what help is available to assess what work you could do. The nearest Job Centre might have details of organisations in your current area, that can help you look into alternative careers, gain new skills etc. This might then inform you what jobs you need to be looking for in the area you are moving to. If you have the written evidence suggested above, plus details of job search, job applications etc, then yes claiming help from Universal Credit should not be an issue.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
