Digital TV

I'm planning to buy a new 27inch or bigger LCD tv in the very near future
depending on cost (my budget is £400). I don't really see the point of getting HD as I believe that the only way to get it is to subscribe to Sky. But it seems to be that decent makes of TVs on sites
like Richer Sounds all seem to be HD ready. Is is possible to buy a decent
make of LCD tv that is not HD ready and so getting one cheaper.

Also currently we can't get a digital reception in our area but reckon
we do get it in 2010. With this in mind (and hoping that the TV lasts that
long) are we better getting a TV with the built in freeview or buy a seperate
freeview box. And if we buy a one that has it built in , how does work if
you want to record onto a video or a dvd recorder ?

Thanks

I have just been along a similar path with an open mind.

My first stop was tesco, where 50 or so TV's were being used. The good thing is that they were in blocks according to size, ie all 21" were together, irrespective of make.

I soon discovered that although 99% were digital, all were showing via an analogue signal, so it wasn't a good representation. I was told that very soon, you won't be able to buy a TV that is analogue (dosen't include freeview).

I looked in Sony, and was impressed both by price and quality and walked out.

Shop after shop after shop. I decided in a Panasonic shop to buy the Viera 23" at £500. This model along with Freeview has everything else included.

I have decided not to connect my VHS and DVD for the moment as I may invest in DVD recorder (they have a built in memory) and they allow you to watch one channel and record another. Also you can play DVD's through it. So in effect, I will have reduced my three boxes to one.

Or by getting an XBox 360, or PS3, or HD-DVD, or Blu-Ray player, amongst others...
