in Credit cards
JL informed me someone tried to apply with them but it got flagged on their system and reported to CIFAS.
A week later a random letter from another firm I've never dealt with or know of called cashplus about a mastercard I know nothing about / informing me it will be cancelled by January. I never applied for one. It's a case of someone impersonating me to obtain a card. They don't even appear to do proper checks. Just issue card numbers through email.
I phoned customer services behind cashplus mastercard who said sorry, data protection, can't help you. Call Action Fraud and let us know what they say. They are a website. I asked at the very least could they put a note against the account. Nope.
Action Fraud ask if I suspect an individual or a company. I don't know who or what. They asked how much was taken etc. If I have to report an individual or the firm.
Is there any steps you would suggest I do beyond action fraud. I've been a bit confused about the whole episode these last 48 hours.

I'm afraid I can't offer advice, but I do offer you sympathy as, from my current experience, you will be losing the will to live when dealing with Cashplus. Over the last month I have spoken to numerous people in their call centre and my issue is still not resolved. I submitted a complaint 26/10/18 which should be dealt with in 3 weeks. I have chased up 3 times since and 3rd person I spoke to told me it hadn't been treated as a complaint as I did not use the phrase 'formal complaint' even though I did send it their 'complaint' email address so I am back to square one.
Sending you Good Lucks trying to get anywhere with them!!!0 -
Sorry to hear that Chris. Did you also post a letter to them? Or was it just the email?
I did offer them a reference number on the letter but they refused saying I'm not the customer.
Even the action Fraud website asks me how much the suspect has taken and when they applied. I don't know when they applied, or how much they have taken. I don't know anything. I am going around in circles.0 -
Hi, pop. Have you checked all of your credit files with the main three companies? You can use Noodle, Clearscore and the MSE Credit Club for free. It may help you if you get protective registration (here, it's not expensive, £20 for 2 years; https://www.cifas.org.uk/services/identity-protection/victim-of-impersonation), it just means any company signed up has to ask for additional information before they allow credit to be obtained.0

Hi Cake
Yes I signed up with CIFAS for 2 years. I'm thankful JL flagged it up and brought it to my attention otherwise I would have had no idea.
I haven't checked my credit reports yet.0 -
I believe you can put a marker on your file with the credit agencies that basically flags you as needing extra checks if anything new it attempted to be opened. Not sure how this works or if there is a down side.0

It's really worth doing this as soon as you can, just to make sure there isn't anything else on there that shouldn't be. You can add a notice of correction too if you want to, but the ID protection from CIFAS should be better.0
