NOW TV Standard (Brilliant) Broadband

Hi
Just checking on current deals for standard broadband and clicked through on NOW TV offer to check what I could get and they say they can't offer me standard (Brilliant Broadband) only fibre. Just wondered if anyone else has had this? Is this purely a case of them trying to push fibre as I suspect? I've had Sky broadband before so there are no technical reason.
Cheers

Could be because you have a long line length to the exchange which would give sub 2Mb ADSL speed, but you are close enough to your cabinet to give adequate VDSL (FTTC) speeds.
Sky (who NOW TV are part of) will not now supply sub 2Mb ADSL.
Check using the BT ADSL checker here

Thanks for the link. I'm currently getting 3.8mb with PlusNet and the maximum observed is 4.8mb according to BT.

now fibre is so cheap you may as well have it.
It gets interesting in 12 months time, when the price rises. Move elsewhere i guess0 -
Are there any one-off cost implications with switching between ADSL and the Fibre hybrid?

Interestingly, I've just tried to apply for NOW broadband.
It tells me that they can't supply me. Strange as I currently have 22Mb FTTC with another provider.
My ADSL speed was sub 2Mb.
My exchange is not unbundled, so maybe that's why?0 -

That’s exactly why. They will only supply ADSL using Sky LLU.0 -

So does this apply to VDSL (FTTC) as well?0 -
thought VSDL was FTTC ? What's the difference?
or do you mean ASDL ? the slow one.
They probably won't supply you a slow connection at 2Mbps as it lowers their average stats and also results in unhappy customers with poor speed0 -

According to Plusnet there is a £30 cessation charge if you want to downgrade to remove fibre broadband. But I don't know whether there is another connection charge for installing ADSL. I didn't get that far, read below.
My problem is that I want to downgrade from Plusnet Fibre to ADSL with another provider mainly because I don't need fibre so the saving is small but significant. My problem is that when providing my phone number and postcode all I can get is fibre I can't get ADSL from any provider. However comparison sites do list ADSL for my postcode.
I suspect but I don't know that when there is already fibre on a line plain old ADSL is not an option. Therefore it might be an option to cancel broadband at a cost of £30 and then get ADSL after the broadband has been removed from the line. But I haven't tried it and probably don't intend to try it due to the loss of internet access between getting broadband cancelled and then fitted again.
What reinforces my suspicion is that before I moved in to my present property and transferred my fibre broadband from my previous address the previous occupant had ADSL.0 -

Yes VDSL is FTTC. ADSL is copper all the way back to the exchange.0
