Confused about PPI process

I am very confused - I had an EGG loan and a Mint Credit Card and I have the paperwork to prove this. I wrote to Barclays who now manage EGG and RBS who now manage Mint as directed and they have both written back to say they cannot find evidence of my accounts but I did have them and have the account numbers. Why are they telling me this and what do I do next? The whole PPI thing is extremely confusing and long-winded processes to claim. I feel like giving up! Can anyone advise? Many thanks.

Barclays bought Egg credit cards, not the loan book. Try Canada Square - https://www.citibank.co.uk/personal/complaints-egg.do
RBS may no longer hold any records. When did you have this Mint Credit Card?0 -
If you have paperwork that proves you paid PPI and account numbers then send them copies of that assuming Citi don't turn anything up, you can proceed with a complaint based on your own paperwork
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

As Nasqueron said, if your paperwork has evidence of PPI payments then they are obliged to investigate on this basis - however if they no longer hold any records it would be a very basic response saying no evidence of wrong doing - if your paperwork does not elude to any PPI then the response will still be no record.0
