Post Office Mortgage with Free conveyancey question?

Options
Hello,
Been looking at mortgages available to me, and just wondering if anyone here has had a post office mortgage with the 'free conveyancey'

What's the service like, and how much did you end up paying with all the extra fees?

Unsure if I should go with the the free conveyancey or the £400 cashback option! Thanks

  • A conveyancer which I have chosen and is working in my interest or a conveyancer who will be assigned to me and will try to get things done as cheaply & quickly as possible because the Post Office is paying as little as possible.

I know which option I would go for!

what are the terms of the offer?
    * can you choose your solicitor and get the bill paid by PO, or do they assign one?
    * what is included/excluded in 'free' conveyancing? Is there a cap (ie on hours spent)?

    * does it cover leaseholds (if relevant)? Unregistererd? acting for both you and lender?

Trying to save a couple of hundred quid on fees for the ONLY professional who is actually on your side, in the whole saga of spending hundreds of thousands...?

Seems a false economy to me...
  • The vendors we're buying from have a Post Office Mortgage and use their solicitors and it's been a nightmare! It took over a week for them to be assigned a solicitor after they agreed their purchase. It took 8 weeks for us to get a draft contract from them. We have spent a long time waiting for them!
Personally I'd choose my own solicitors and get cashback, but I can see the appeal if you don't have a solicitor up your sleeve so to speak.
