Damp and neutralising salts

Hi has anyone who has or had "damp" in their house used a salt neutralising solution on the walls instead of replastering with salt resistant plaster?

Yes I tried it. Seemed to work, a few salts still came through but much less than before.

Did you paint it over existing paint work or was it brand new plaster?. I have a wall which is not damp behind the plaster but salts are obviously attracting moisture from the room on the face of an internal wall, so the face of the plaster is disintegrating.
