Hi all, just wondering if and how you cook rice in the microwave. My microwave has a pre set function for it but now sure how to do it.
Any comments around this welcome.
I do have a rice cooker but my rice always sticks to the bowl and wastes half of it.

I have a rice cooker for the microwave that I got in Matalan. Was about £4. Basically a pot with another pot inside it (which as holes at bottom) and a lid with vents in it. I cook all my rice in it and it is great. For 2 people, put in 8oz rice, 1 and 1/2 pint boiling water. Cook for 5 mins, stir and cook for another 6. Really good rice everytime and would recommend it. Sure you can buy them in loads of places.0

i have no hob at the moment and i managed to cook rice in there. what i did was weighed out how much rice i was using and added it to a microwavable bowl and added boiling water from the kettle and covered it with clingfilm then i pressed the rice button on micro then you put in the weight of the rice and press start.
Be careful though if your using quick cook rice as it obviously cooks quickerOther women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -
I usually do 1 cup of rice for 4 of us... 2 cups of boiling water from kettle in a bowl/ pyrex dish... in microwave for about 12-13 mins on high.. just check near the end.0

I always cook my rice in the microwave.
I use Basmati rice and do one cup of rice to 2 cpus of boiling water, cover with clingfilm, cook on HIGH for 12-13 minutes and leave to stand for a couple of minutes.

Hi
I successfully cook rice in the microwave. For 4 of us, I use a normal pirex dish with lid, pop in 8oz of (basmati) rice with 16fl oz cold water. Put on high for 12 minutes and stir it every 4 mins. Comes out nice.0 -
Does basmati come out better then? I normaly use just normal white rice.
Thanks for all the advice people0 -
Like others on here, I always use the microwave for plain white rice especially when I'm in a hurry. It comes out great and use 1 cup basmati rice to two cups water in a microwaveable bowl.
Add a bay leaf or two for a wonderfully fragrant rice.0 -
Thanks all. so the one part rice two parts water seem to be a common thing which seems simple enough... I hope lol.
I just hope my pre set settings for rice work ok. I have to input the weight but it says nothing about how much water to add.0 -
I always cook my rice in the microwave in a pyrex dish. Had a rice cooker - nightmare, burnt rice and half stuck to the bottom. Have got one of those microwave steamers but just use that for veg.
The trick, I think, is to WASH the rice in a sieve and then put it in the dish, makes it much less sticky. Something my mum taught me (and she's half chinese so I take her words on rice as gospel). Just keep checking it. Perfect rice everytime and I've converted quite a few of my friends to this method, too. That's Numberwang!0
