TRV appears to be faulty. Is my CH set right?

Check your boiler flow temperature setting too. It needs to be high enough to heat the HW cylinder to the set temperature but the lower it is running, the more efficient your boiler will be. If your boiler allows different flow temperatures for CH and HW, set them to something like 70/55 respectively for max efficiency.0

General advice is to have the thermostat in the room you use most and not have a TRV on that rad, or turn TRV fully up.
Thermostat and TRV will be fighting each other otherwise.
Unusual on a modern system to have only one setting on the timer for both heating and water, it may be possible to upgrade it. Do you know more about how your system is designed.......is there a motorised valve .....how many positions does it have......is there only one pump?
Ah right so there is a radiator very close to the thermostat in the wall which has a TRV on. I shall turn that TRV fully up so it controls the thermostat.
I think the programmer & boiler are probably around 10 years old so this is probably why it hasn't individual settings for CH & HW.

If the thermostat is very close to the radiator, and this radiator is in the hall, if you turn up the TRV the thermostat will quickly reach the set temperature and turn everything off, which is not what you want as then your lounge will not be warm enough.
IMO you are better to turn the thermostat up high and use the TRVs to control the temperature in each room. I would set the lounge highest, the hall medium-low and the bedrooms low, then see how it goes.
The advice to use the thermostat to control things only works (and not that well IMO) if it is in the room you are using most, and only that room will always be at the temperature you actually want.0 -
Incidentally, timers that can have different settings for HW and CH have been around for many years, our system is over 30 years old and has this type of timer.
We have 2 pumps in the system so can have the HW heating at the same time as the radiators. With a motorised valve, the heating of the HW usually has priority.0
