Outlook Problem - saving contacts

I am hoping someone can help me.

I use Outlook for my contacts and email. When I try to save an email address into contacts it saves the address but then locks my outlook and becomes non responsive. Has anyone had a similar problem and how do you solve it. I have to close Outlook down and reopen again, which seems to take ages.

Here's hoping someone can help

  • Sounds like a problem with either the address book or Outlook (which are essentially two seperate applications).

Try opening the address book on it's own (I think the file normally resides in you My Documents folder) and adding an address that way - if it works then the address book is not the problem, so it would look like Outlook will need re-installing.

If you have Outlook and not Outlook Express, then you should be able to re-install it from the disk you got it from originally (normally Microsoft Office).

Hi Lynda. Soullinks comments are about Outlook Express and if that is what you are using then follow those. However, if you are actually using Microsoft Outlook (as your post would suggest) then i would suggest trying to repair the PST file. The PST file is where your emails and contacts are stored in Microsoft Outlook. The microsoft site has good instructions on how to do this here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA010563001033.aspx

Failing that, i would say backup your PST file and then reinstall Outlook from the disk, run any office updates that their might be and then import the data from your old PST file.

Can i ask what version of Outlook you are using? (open outlook, choose HELP menu and then About). Also what version of Windows!

Let us know how it goes.

    Graham
