Vanquis underhand tactics

in Credit cards
Couple of weeks back i called Vanquis and asked to settle my balance and close the card...dont need or want it,serves no purpose.
Lady went through security and yes thank you balance now clear and we will close this account, however its urgent we speak to you regards your second account.
Alarm bells started ringing as only have and only ever had one account...she said she would transfer me to the second account, chap answered and asked is that Mr __________ __________ yes thats me and can you confirm security details including address..email..telephone ect.
Then he introduced himself and its a debt collection agency...you have a balance from SKY from 2011...when ive asked who the hell he was,he explained they share information with Vanquis.....i suggested the under hand nature of obtaining my details was a breach of data protection,he said he wasn't there to discuss that and how did i want to pay.
I mentioned statue barred and told him to go forth.
So the question is...can Vanquis transfer me to a third party with holding who they are (they stated a second account so assumed it was a fraud department/Back office) and only stating who they are after obtaining full personal info.?
As always appreciate the thoughts and advice given.

One would assume that they are regulated to do so. I very much doubt they are doing this unlawfully.0

Vanquis is a bank. You make a complaint to Vanquis, and take it to FOS if unsatisfied.0

Thanks for the replies...Question is are they misleading customers by with holding information and making out you have two accounts = Two cards with them only to be transfer to a third party chasing a 7 year old debt.
Yes complaint made and will follow through as it simply comes across to me as under handed and a breach of data protection.
Luckily all my calls are recorded.0 -
It it's not an Vanquis' website, you should ask for a copy of Vanquis' privacy notice:
https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/does-an-organisation-need-my-consent/
and potentially register a complaint with the ICO:
https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/your-personal-information-concerns/
Of course, you could always just repay the money you owe... I'll get my coat.0 -

Hmmm just paid off roughly eight grand of credit cards in one hit...so rather pleased about that.
As for the Sky debt you suggest paying...well first off its not my debt, after my mother died i contact all the people she had services with and wrote to them sending death cert for those who wanted them.
Sky after taking my contact details assumed i was liable for the debt..explained i wasn't and assumed matter was closed, debt collectors (many over the years) all stopped when they realized it was her debt and not mine (no estate to pay her debts)..its 7 years old and im damned if im going through all that again.
So no thanks not paying a debt thats over 7 years old and isnt even mine...its been bad enough paying Virgin for the last god knows how many years...lol0
