School shoes !!

Morning,
Would anybody be able to tell me my consumer rights regarding
school shoes.
My son has worn his school shoes for roughly 9weeks total and they have a hole at the toe end and can no longer be worn
They were £45(average price i’d Say)
Thoughts please, surely they should last longer than this ?😩

Where did you buy them from?

School shoes take a lot of punishment, particularly from younger kids. It's not unusual for shoes to wear out in certain areas after only a few months. However, as it's less than six months, the onus is on the retailer to prove the shoes are not faulty. You may have an uphill battle on your hands though.

Is there a lot of scuffing of the material around the hole? (Kids will be kids, drag their feet, use their shoes as brakes on their bike/scooter, play football in them, etc.)

Have his feet grown and the shoes are now too small?

Back when I was a lad (i.e,. the 1970s) there was a brand called Tuf which offered a 6 month guarantee. I got through them in 3 months - and I was a nerdy kid rather than an out-and-out active one. So Mum would buy a pair - get them replaced - get the replacements replaced... by which time I would need the next size anyway.
I need to think of something new here...

Compass in the heel (although mine were in the 1960s)! In retrospect, they may not have actually been Tuf, although I did have a lot of their shoes too.

How old is your lad? As while growth spurts are never conveniently timed, it does affect perception. Under SAD FART I'd hope any footwear lasted more than 9 weeks, but some children are harder on footwear than others. Just two months though seems an awfully short life.
  • It’s a school shop called Valentino’s. It’s only on one shoe
and looks like the rubber at the front has worn away creating
the hole. I’ll go back today and see what they say. Thanks though.
  • He’s only 11 and skinny. How do you add a pic? (Of shoe not child )😂

You need to add it to an image hosting site, such as imgur.com, then share the BBCode link.

Does he have a bike? sounds like he could be using the shoe as an extra brake?
  • No, shoes only used for school(we walk). But yes that is what I’d expect if he did. 😊
