This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning campers :)

YEAH as predicted ....7 hours sleep through :j Im feel fit for anything this morning

Sorry for the sleep moaning lately I hate being grumpy but lack of sleep does that to me

Good day yesterday but very long. Group were lovely and it was back to not having to yell at them :D Sanwiches were a resounding success so need to repeat those today :) had a cheeky maccy d's on the way home as there was no way I would keep my eyes open long enough to cook. Tonight I will behave and head back to the freezer for dinner but I did enjoy a little treat and very cheap too.

So today it Manchester again for a stress course, Hoping it stays as the content and not the outcome :D Weather forecast looks a bit crappy seems we will be all hit pretty badly today but they did say Wales and Southwest particularly so take care OSers nan make sure Mr Fixit isn't in the shed as it will be the Wizard of Oz all over again :D

Right offski so have a great day all and keep safe in the storms :A

  • Hello, I am up and about to have some tea and toast. I slept until 4, not bad for me.

Any plans I might have had are scuppered by a forecast of heavy rain - it is already pounding down and pretty windy. I have plenty of things to do indoors anyway.

Thinking of all those who could do with a "thought boost" and I'll probably be back later to see what others are doing on this miserable day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

I hope Organza_Lace and Gers feel better soon xx

-taff A cocktail session sounds fab :D I don't really like fancy drinks though, is rum and coke allowed? :D

poppy How exciting, good luck to your son :D

Furious about next door's tree  Another bloke came out from the HA (neighbour's landlord), said it was in no danger of falling over but he'd recommend they get a survey done on the tree – I assumed he meant a proper tree surgeon to check roots and whatever else it is they do. Not sure why that didn't happen after the last visit, when two blokes said it needed sorting. He was just going by the size of it and how close it was to the house. Mr tru spoke to the HA yesterday and they said his report said it was fine, there was no structural damage to the houses and the tree wouldn't fall over. He didn't check for damage, didn't check roots, etc and didn't even go in the neighbour's garden, he looked at it from our side. The HA said they don't like to remove healthy trees, mr tru said it's not an ancient oak tree with a TPO, it's a huge nuisance leylandii that is far too close to the house so we're worried about roots, has pushed our fence over a bit and has damaged our lawn and plants. Anyway, mr tru suggested they do come and look at the tree properly “And while you're at it you need to fix the guttering because it's hanging off – in fact the whole house is in a right state and you really need to have words with her because she's ruining your building. Also, her cherry tree out the front cracked our drive a few years ago, she agreed it was her tree's fault but did nothing so we had to take it down ourselves – if you think we're sorting out another problem caused by her, you'd be very wrong. If nothing is done, we'll be taking this further”. Not sure that endeared him to the housing officer but he felt better for saying it, lol. And I don't think we can take it further - if they do nothing, all we can do is wait for damage to happen (if it hasn't already) then claim off our insurance. Well, that's the legal position ;)

I had the lights on for most of the day, it was dark, wet and windy. I crocheted for most of the afternoon, only stopped when I started going cross-eyed :D

Wet and windy here, it'll probably stay the same all day. Mum is coming round for coffee, she's timed it so she arrives just as we get home from a walk. By the time I've had a late lunch (she doesn't eat here very often, she has diabetes so likes to sort her own food at home, plus she likes to eat with dad) it won't be worth starting any housework. Crochet it is then :D

    Morning All

I had to come home from work yesterday morning as I felt really grotty, I'm sure it was a reaction to the flu jab the day before, all shivery and hot at the same time! Anyway, I feel fine this morning so back to the grind.

Sorry some of you are suffering from little sleep, it's horrible.

Hugs to those not doing so well, hope things improve. Well done to your DS Poppy, I'll have a look on catch up to watch.

Have as good a day as you can. Take care. XX
  • Morning folks and commiserations to the other non-sleepers. I managed till 5.00 so a slight improvement for me. Must have been the fresh air yesterday.

My agenda for today kicks off with an Aldi shop. DS picking me up about 9.30 and I want to make sure I am stocked up on enough day to day none perishables to tide me over the next month or so, to make battling with the hordes a bit easier when the silly season shopping starts in earnest.

I have the 3 DGDs sleeping tonight so the customary Thursday Bolognese Pasta Bake will be on the menu as usual. It'll be a late dinner tonight as the 2 "Margots" won't be arriving until after the panto rehearsal, so about 8 pm. Eldest will be coming after her diving classes
so she will be kicking the table leg from about 7.15 till they get here! Unless I make her an individual dish to pop in earlier I suppose.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried and lonely. POPPY how exciting for you watching your DS on Masterchef. Fingers crossed! Take care all xxx

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Still dark, very blustery and still damp underfoot, more rain forecast for today.

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and I up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and just finished brekkie, I'll be heading into town first thing, DS2 will catch a lift and walk from there to the gym. I need to visit the bank and building society.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, and peas. Tonight I'm not sure, but will organise later.

Work wasn't too busy yesterday - just aswell as we had staff call in sick, although we did have the scenario of several people all coming in at the same time, but at other times being quite dead. Not back to work now until Monday.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Wet and howling a gale here and set in for the day I think its really quite grotty here.

We went out for a lovely meal with dd and her boyf last night, and he proposed to her and she said yes :D I knew it was coming as he had asked me to go with him to help him buy the ring and I had made a cake and hollowed out the middle and hidden it inside, the whole restaurant clapped and cheered when she said yes :rotfl:

Back to work and reality today and a fairly nice Thursday group I think we are on mince pie making today.

Dinner tonight will be pizza chips and some salad so nice and easy.

Autoglass are coming back today to fix the door handle on my car which they damaged  and they still have to come back and repair the paintwork which they have damaged I would never use them or recommend them to anyone they have been so dreadful !!

Camelot Ive heard a few people saying they felt grotty after the flu jab, glad you are better xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning - wet here, it's become the norm.

I slept pretty well, only woke 2-3 times which is good for me. Often, I find that the problem is not actually falling asleep, but staying asleep, don't know about anyone else. I do sleep better if I get up early though.

After my dithering yesterday I went into Newcastle. My reasoning was that it was such an awful day, being outside I wouldn't be tempted to wander the shops. I knew what I was going for, and where to go, so didn't want to wander randomly.
It partially worked, but the Eldon Square indoor shopping complex is so big that it's easy to get into loads of stores from there. Anyway I didn't do too badly, and sorted some family presents. It was busy though.

Tru, hope you get the tree business cleared up, though it's not your problem I know.

Camelot, I know a few people who have had bad reactions to the flu jab - glad you're ok now.

OL, sorry to hear you've got a lurgy.

TA, it's good to "see" you !!

Just doing what my DD calls "stuff" this morning. I've arranged a Christmas lunch out for our book group after our meeting on Monday, so I'll pop up to the restaurant with our menu choices, then after dinner it's the card making session I go to.

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can. Thinking of the sad and the poorly people.

    Take care folks

    Morning everyone.

What a wild, wet and windy day we had yesterday. Videos on FB show my local area coming off really badly. As the sea is so close to a lot of the A83 the huge waves were right over the road and causing flooding along huge stretches of it. The police were out stopping traffic at a couple of points. Today is meant to be more of the same.

I took DM for her cardiology appointment and being out in wind and rain was difficult for her. Luckily there was a blue badge parking spot really close to the hospital front door. She came away having had an echo test and increased dosage of digoxin but much happier.

My gastric bug seems to be under control now, thanks to good old Imodium- I hesitated to take it but couldn't risk things at the hospital. Thanks for all the good wishes.

Camelot - sorry you've been so badly affected by the flu jag. Perhaps it's worth a note to your doc about it.

TA - lovely to hear that the DGDs are back to Thursday pasta bake night again. And more dancing too!

Poppy - I'll need to watch that episode back. Well done him!

Tru - I'm so looking for to your December tunes again.

OL - keep that cough lubricated, plenty of water will really help.

My Thursday student is absent again this week, he's having a tough time with inner ear problems. He's now missed four weeks, not sure how he'll catch up.

    Keep safe everyone. Happy Thursday.

Edit - what a lovely BF your DD has Redruby.

    Morning everyone,

Ah, what a lovely surprise for your DD RR and what a smashing fella to include his future MIL.
    Glad you slept better Nelski
Another one here who is doing a stock shop today TA then I can avoid the big SM’s.
Hope you start to feel better soon OL
It’s very windy here as well and is meant to peak mid morning, thankfully the big beech trees have lots most of their leaves so hopefully none of them will decide to move to our garden!
I came home yesterday lunchtime to find that my DSS had tidied his room......by putting everything under his bed :rotfl: but no washing done, told him last night that I have left the big airer free for him to use, hint hint.
Right, time to get on, have a good day folks x
  • Redruby how romantic!

Scarletribbons my problem is exactly the same. I have no difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep is a challenge. So I get up, little point in just lying there resenting the fact that I'm awake!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
