Eon DD price hikes

Options
I switched to Eon as part of the MSE Energy Club because it was supposedly going to make my payments cheaper.

The payments have been more than my old payments, in part because of the Warm Home Discount which hasn't been applied and which apparently now won't be available to everyone anyway. Despite registering interest and despite this being factored in to my switching, Eon did not actually tell me the scheme was open so I don't know how far down the list I am seeing as I didn't know it had opened.

The last quarter was £55 underpaid and Eon has now said it wants to put the DD up by £100 more per month. I have said that I don't agree to this but they are refusing to shift, indeed there's been no responses to my emails concerning this after the Live Chat person stonewalled me and refused to help, starting a broken record routine. If I cancel the DD, then I won't be on the cheaper tariff any more because you have to pay by DD but that surely doesn't give them the right to demand overpayments in excess of what usage is and which are in effect payments in advance.

Any ideas as to how to resolve this before the DD payments go up? The only thing I can do to stop them is to cancel it but what then?

If you are short by £55 in the last quarter then you will probably be far more than £55 short this quarter as you will likely use more energy for your heating system over the winter. That is why they want to put the DD up by more. To cover the historic shortfall and any possible shortfall for the upcoming period.
  • The increase in your dis realistic.
If you already owe money, pay it all off and ask them to look at your dad payments again.

Are your bills based on estimated or actual readings? Read your meter today and compare it with your last bill.

Have you done your own sums for this present quarter to see by how much your debit is growing?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Good morning clairemp.

Thanks all for the information already posted on the thread.

The warm home discount is a Government-led initiative. You can apply through the website, before the applications opened you could register your interest and we would have notified you when this opened.

It does sound like you're not paying enough to cover the amount of energy that you're using and this is the reason for the increase.

As Robin9 says, are your bills based on estimated readings? If they are we need to get this billed up to date first.

Accounts should be in credit at this time of year, as this helps to cover the larger winter bills.

The Direct Debit is calculated from usage, so the more accurate reads we have, the better.

I just posted some Direct Debit information on another thread about how it works, so I'll pop it below as well for info.

When paying by Direct Debit, the idea is you reach a zero balance at your annual review. That means you only pay what you need to for the energy you’re using.

To make sure you’re always on track, we review your payments on a regular basis. You can also review them yourself online using our Direct Debit Manager tool. (via your online account)

You’ll also have one annual review every year; this is the end point of each Direct Debit cycle.

    Thank you

As others have said if you have underpaid by £55 in the summer quarter then you are likely to be underpaid by several hundred pounds by April. Your DD needs to be increased to pay off the £55 underpayment plus extra to cover your projected extra consumption over the winter.

Read your meter yourself every month, send readings in to the supplier and do your own sums. Check that your bills and staements are based on actual readings and get any estimated ones corrected.

When you know how much you are using and how much you are paying for it then hopefully you wont get any surprises because you'll understand how much your DD should be to cover your consumption.
