laptop , tablet etc..

If you take cabin bag and airline says 10kg and it says you can take one additional item like laptop, big camera or tablet...

does the weight of this one 'additional item' have to be included in the 10kg limit?

Or is 10kg cabin luggage + weight of one item ?

You need to check with your airline. Rules may differ.
The airline website will be a good start.

The answer is no. The laptop/camera etc is not included in the weight allowance. But don't try to fill the laptop bag with other items. :)
  • You need to check the airlines website. Some airlines the weight includes both items, others it doesn't. There isn't a one size fits all answer.

As above, every single airline is different and it can also depend on whether you have booked seats or fast boarding as well. Any frequent traveller gets used to double checking the exact requirements for every flight, even on airlines they have used before- as things change all the time.

for anyone else who wants to know the answer, rang thomas cook and they said the weight of the 'additonal item' is on top of the 6kg. So in effect you can take more than 6kg in total

...from what you say on Thomas Cook Airlines (which you failed to mention before).

As previously highlighted, airline rules vary so it is wise to check with the airline you are booked to fly with to see what the allowance and size restrictions are.
