virgin credit card acceptance

So I went through MSE to find an interest free spending credit card I opted for Virgin money, did the checker and got 100% pre approved, where it stated point blank I will be accepted instantly if I apply now........so I applied and then it said 7 to ten days for a decision.
Has this happened to anyone else? I am worried now I will be turned down as previous past applications I have been accepted there and then. I have an excellent credit rating, will this be affected if they refuse? Will they tell me why?
Thanks in advance

  • I too applied for the Virgin 26 months interest free purchase card very recently after being pre-approved, I was accepted and the card came in 7-10 days. I cant remember being told 7-10 for a decision but I don't think its necessarily a problem they could just be doing extra security checks etc, certainly nothing to worry about, without wanting to sound blunt you either get it or you don't nothing is 100% guaranteed with CC applications these days.
  • I applied for the same card a couple of days ago, I got an instant approval with a £6700 credit limit.
  • could be something they need to double check... maybe you entered a digit wrong in your account details or something like that (i have done this before!!)

other than that , give them a ring to see the progress, or wait until decision received.

I applied for BT card with pre approval through MSE, and got what was offered on application

I think I had that with both my virgin cards. They eventually came through okay, without any chasing.

I've seen someone on here claim that you have a higher chance of being referred if you apply outside normal working hours, specifically at weekends. I've no idea if that is true however.
  • If possible always apply weekdays before 8pm and at the start of the month.

When banks do their back ups on their systems at night/evening it will mostly always refer applications.

At start of month the bank will have a fresh budget to lend. If say towards end of month they are reaching their target they will tighten up criteria but on other hand if not meeting targets they will lower criteria.

So if you apply say lunchtime first Wednesday of month you technically have the best chance..........
