Buy a car with Tesco Clubcard points

What's it about?
It's now possible to pay for a car using Tesco Clubcard points, if you can get to Glasgow, Burnley, Derby, Newport or Peterborough.
A truckload of Tesco points are still required e.g. 150,000 to buy a £6,000 car for instance. Yet there are regularly tricks and loopholes to help build up clubcard points rapidly, and these will be reported in the weekly MoneySaving e-mail.
How does it work?
You earn 1 clubcard point for each £1 you spend in Tesco; if you redeem these in-store for money off your groceries they are worth 1p each. However, use them to get rewards, e.g. days out, jewellery vouchers, holidays and RAC membership from the Clubcard Deals Brochure, and they are worth 4p (see the brochure).
New car dealer Motorpoint has now joined the scheme, making for one of the most lucrative clubcard deals ever; you could effectively quarter the price of a new car. For instance, buy a 3 door Volkswagen Polo 1.2 Hatchback for £5,999 and it'll cost you £1500 in Clubcard Vouchers. See Motorpoint's map to find your nearest dealer and contact details.
You must put down a minimum deposit of £300, which is refunded when you pick up the car (this rises to £500 if the car's worth £10k+ and £1000 for a £15k vehicle). If you're using Deals Tokens in part payment then whether or not you'd get a refund would depend on how much you've paid using them.
How to save up as quickly as possible.
You will need a lot of points to buy a car; yet regular loopholes to bag extra Tesco points mean that this is a definite possibility for hardcore Tesco clubcard users. For example recent ones have included 250 points (worth £10 in Deals) for doing a survey and £4 worth of Deals for a £1.52 spend.
Clubcard vouchers last 2 years, and Deals Tokens 6 months. So you'll effectively have 2 years to save up as much as you can for the car.
Once you have enough vouchers you'll need to exchange them for the appropriate amount of Deals Tokens. Motorpoint won't give change so if you don't want to waste them make sure you have the relevant amount.
Motorpoint doesn't accept credit cards or cash at its collection points so before you go to collect your car make sure you either have the correct amount in Deals Tokens, or a building society cheque, Bankers Draft or your bank details to be able to make a BACs transfer to make it up to the correct amount.
Are there any Terms and conditions?

- You'll need to collect your car within 5 days of leaving the deposit so timing is key.
- Deals Tokens can only be used by the person who's name is on them.
- You'll also need to pay the car tax and, if you're buying a new car, the registration fees (currently a £50 government registration fee and a £25 registration plate fee).
- As Motorpoint sources some new vehicles from outside the UK you'll need to confirm with it that the car you want meets UK specifications.

New Clubcard deal. . . Normal thing - vouchers worth 4 times the amount etc.
About this Deal
The Motorpoint experience is car buying evolved - with an emphasis on choice, quality and exceptionally competitive prices.
There are always thousands of cars in stock for you to choose from. And you can choose to check them out in person or by using their detailed online listings. You can also talk to them by phone.
By stepping outside the traditional manufacturer-franchised main dealer format and sourcing new cars from a variety of manufacturers across Europe - as well as nearly-new vehicles within the UK - Motorpoint has demonstrated a consistent ability to deliver major cost savings. How major? Since 1998 Motorpoint customers have saved a staggering £54 million - an average £3,000 saving on every car.
Visit Motorpoint's website to check the wide range of makes and models on their always up-to-date stock list. Or call direct on 0845 413 2170.
Visit one of Motorpoint's sites at: Glasgow, Burnley, Derby, Newport or Peterborough0 -

Thanks theowl for the info.
Does anyone have any further info on this though?
I have spoken to Motorpoint in Newport who say they are not going to be taking deal vouchers, and Motorpoint head office who say they have never heard of this and they doubt they'll be taking them, then put me on hold for 10 minutes then hung up!
I just wondered if there was a min spend / maximum vouchers per purchase and whether I can use the vouchers to pay for an existing order.
Cheers!0 -

It does say that the offer is coming soon when you click on the link to Tesco's site (above). Maybe the Head Office dude panicked when you said you wanted to buy a Porsche paid in full with Tesco Clubcard vouchers :rotfl:0 -
Lol, not a porsche unfortunately just a ford ka! I have delayed collecting it until Friday 16th so that I can send off for the vouchers, I just pray they'll take them. Surely they must as it's definitely on Tesco website like you say. MFI were good, they used to take them without any problems, even on existing orders.0

Obviously Tesco are going to close down peoples accounts before they accumulate anything like the figure needed to pay for a car.
Another fine contradiction from Tesco... encouraging points collection on this kind of ridiculous scale which can only be achieved by the kind of methods they consider "not within the intended spirit of the scheme".0 -
And at this stage we can only speculate on the actual terms... perhaps like the holidays brochure price only... so no part exchange etc etc
Best wait until tomorrow to see what the terms are....Bit of a Florida Fan :j
8/12/08 Highlands Reserve, 3/12/09 Calaby Parc
18/8/10 Villa Upper Class 19/12/10 Villa Upper Class
10/08/11 C P Tower Lake 10/12/11 C P Tower Lake
28/4/12 Emerald Island 22/7/12 Florida for 6 weeks
13/12/12 4 weeks C P Tower Lake 13/2 Prize win Orlando0 -
But the wait is killing me!
But yeah, all should become clear tomorrow hopefully.0 -
I too have been waiting for today and now see its put back until 16th November!!!!
I rang Clubcard and the lady told there was no maximum-you can pay in FULL!!!! arrgghh what an offer??!!
Her team leader came and confirmed it as I said it sounded too good to be true.
I now need to know if I can buy vouchers off e-bay (naughty??) and use them all to buy a car. I have £300 of vouchers so £1200 deals but if I can buy £1000 of vouchers and use them surely thats £4000 in deals????
Will they let this happen?????0
