    Update,
The town council have refused the retrospective planning permission but it will ultimately be the decision of the Borough Council. Story here

So glad that this has been turned down. This building is listed and should not be desecrated with Smart's signs.

19/29885/LBC | Retention of signage throughout the site and ANPR cameras in order to keep track of who is entering and exiting the car park. We propose to affix two small ANPR cameras to the wall of the Crown Hotel in order to manage the car park. Furthermore, to affix a number of the signs relating to the car park to the wall of the hotel (sign numbers on site plan: 7, 8, 8a and 9). | Crown Hotel 38 High Street Stone Staffordshire ST15 8AS

    Need some more objections.

What about enlisting the help (and pressure capability) of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE)?

I believe anyone can object at the initial town council stage. I'm not sure about the borough council stage though. I have done so concerning retrospective applications at Instow car park, Devon, although I live in Zumerzet. I successfully lodged separate complaints on the planning department portal for cameras and signs.

A link to the planning department/council would be useful.

Stone is a canal town. There is canal boat hire very near to the Crown and a marina just outside the town. Trentham Gardens and Monkey Forest is only about 10 mins from Stone. A food festival takes place regularly which draws in visitors from outside the area.

The Crown Hotel is historically an important building but a bit faded inside. The car park is only small and the owner may be better off using the space as an outside eating/drinking area and arrange for permits on the car park across the road.
