Prepayment meters - newbie

Hello all
following on from my other thread (moving into flat alone, first time living on my own) I have been given some great advice - and have found out which supplier the flat is currently on (it is OVO, never heard of them)
My question is - are pre payment meters a bad thing? I am swaying towards them in a bid to keep myself straight - I have a very limited income that is unlikely to change in the near future
Do you have a prepayment meter, and any thoughts on them?

There were prepayment meters here when I moved in and I hated them and got them changed to credit meters as soon as possible. In fact the elec one was changed next day as the power company said it was too high up for me to load safely. The gas one however took an age to change and I found it a real nuisance having to think about keeping it topped up.
I now pay by monthly direct debit which covers the bills and I don't have to worry about it. But I suppose if this is not possible or someone is particularly bad at managing money then they have their place.0 -
Ovo use a smart prepayment meter. Easy to top up, no visits to Paypoint shops needed. a big improvement on the old ones. Now that prepay rates are capped their tariff s are lower than standard/variable. They are much better than the old ones from the last century
One day , I think, smart prepayment meters may be the cheapest way of buying energy.
Try visiting an easy to use comparison site such as UKpower.co to see if you can beat Ovo s rates0 -
Thanks Houbara.
I did a quick look at OVO as tbh had never heard of the company and was really pleased to find that they had an app you could top up with
Do you have to pay to get a pre payment meter fitted? With love, POSR0 -
Ignore me, I have found the answer myself it appears they fit the meter for free
I havent looked at the meters yet and wont get a chance until next week, but when checking OVO it says the flat is on with Boost.
Boost appears to be a PAYG part of OVO.
Oh my days i am confused
Introducing Boost
OVO PAYG energy is now Boost - a new brand dedicated to giving
pre-pay energy users the attention they deserve.
I am wondering if the flat already has a pre payment meter now. I will check but i hope i know by lookingWith love, POSR0 -

you'll soon find out when the electric stops working when the credit runs out:rotfl:
but it's likely its on a pre-pay meter if that's what the energy companies checks come back as, they use a central database to pull details from0
