I noticed queues at the petrol station in town which is not normally busy as there are cheaper ones nearby. Ordinary unleaded was 151.9p a litre, didn’t notice the price of dieselIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8

This week I do not need a car, but week after next I will & by then fuel prices will certainly have shifted at the pump. May ask Middleson to fill a petrol can for me when next he's out.
Looking at the under-desk pantry there is oil, rice, assorted cans, toothpaste & various herbs & spices. as well as tinfoil, laundry fluid & serval pallets of beans & tomatoes. Exactly the stuff I do not want to go out into the snow for, even if it won't please the carnivores!6 -

Besides, Vladimir will soon come to his senses when he realises that if he carries on like this for much longer, Doris might well phone him up again and complain. And then where will he be?

euronorris said:In your case Happy_Sloth, I would probably allow myself £15-£20 to source some non perishable stock cupboard essentials - pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes, powdered onion, minced garlic, tinned potatoes, veggies and fruit. Trolley.co.uk is an app that compares prices of items at various different supermarkets, so that you can try to maximise what you are getting for your budget.
I didn't go mad, just stocked up on what I needed that I couldn't get in Lidl the other day. Bought a few tins , reduced meat and beer and cider! I did go to Wilkos to stock up on medical supplies I needed and a sneaky look at the seeds. There were totally empty shelves for many medical items which was a bit disconcerting.
I bought some seeds as I can not help myself, plus onion and shallot sets, there was no seed compost available. I have normal compost mixed with vermiculite which will do to start indoor seeds off.
Even a friend who does not think about prepping etc remarked that she was off to buy some tins and pasta for her cupboards and fill up her car.

I'm spending some savings to get practical things I've been waiting to get for the home. Especially money saving kit - ie pressure cooker. Also alternative cooking means - in case the power goes down. No point in postponing purchases while prices are going up and with the possibility of supply shortages. Plus I'll add to the stock of dried pulses etc. Also I need to back up computer info and I may even put some info on paper. Then there is the gardening stuff - seeds, equipment, compost. There was a real run on some things during the worst of the pandemic. I'm a lapsed member of a UK prepper group. Be interesting to see how they are thinking.

( another quote from Shaun of the Dead :-) )Not sure this will blow over any time soon. Putin is not someone to back down and it would appear this has been in the planning for a while. He must have been smiling to himself as western leaders went in turn to try and negotiate.I can't see how this won't escalate I'm afraid. All it will need is some fire directed at a NATO state - accidental or otherwise.

Agree Pineapple. He wouldn't be doing it unless he meant it and he's not going to run away home because Boris tells him to. Prices will go into orbit and I just hope we can get gas from somewhere.

Despite being very pregnant at the start of the pandemic I could rationalise that and plan and felt half in control, war on the other hand I can not, I don't even know where to begin with that.8

Is now the time for us to be getting a log burner installed?8
-
@Thriftygifty - if I were in your shoes and had the readies saved up, I would absolutely say yes.
We have two woodburners (well one is an open fire); we don’t use the gas central heating anymore and haven’t for a while. Foraging for wood is no mean feat (you can of course purchase it), but to me a healthy wood pile is more reassuring than cash at bank - heat, cooking, boiling water etc xx
