... We just get on with it.
(Ref cycling and walking, we're with you on that. This August it'll be 10 years since we gave up the motor car, since which time we've cycled everywhere, walked, got on the bus (pre-COVID) or on rare occasions had to get a taxi for hospital appointments. Our combined age is pushing 140, btw)
ETA - Nobody so far's mentioned Skint Butties, by which I mean two slices of bread and butter with a slice of dry toast as the filling. I'd forgotten about them but I couldn't half fancy one right now ...We're all doomed8 -

Well, I've done the last shop before we go on holiday.
Shelves were empty in Superstore and Walmart. Some products were totally missing.
Right now we have multiple causes. The highways from Vancouver to the prairies is still being repaired from the floods in November and is causing major detours to deliver goods.
Unvaccinated truck drivers can no longer cross the border to/from the US.
The weather has sucked. This week alone it's been down to -30 and up to 9C. I've driven in a blizzard, freezing rain and fog, dry road and ice pack.
The pantry is being utilized and the freezers are being depleted.
Oh, and my provincial government still wants to cut my wage by 3% while our cost of living has gone up by 5
Life is good said with much snark.15 -

Parts of the Highway north from Kamloops, eastwards were washed out.
So nothing was getting in or out of the lower mainland.
My family out there were fine.12 -
Although we heard about Vancouver being cut off, so much stuff in western Canada goes in and out of Vancouver, that in practical term, it was more that the Prairies were cut off from the supply chain and their export markets.
The other trouble is that it'll take time to repair the farms as well as the roads, particularly with fuel and sewage in the mix.
And if people had to kill off livestock because their feed was damaged and they couldn't tuck in replacements, it takes time to build up capacity again. Assuming the farmers survive financially. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing11 -
MrsCD said:True. They want us to spend. They are not our friends!Absolutely agree. With regards to food cost rises, we've started being less fussy at the reduced sections in the local supermarket. Our nearest Te$co has four, and we hit them all. Anything we can use immediately gets canned for later. A kilo of mince at today's prices is better than a kilo later on that's gone up in price. It's always amazed me how much more food there is under the lower shelf, in our shop. Nobody seems to bend over and have a proper look. 😂10
