The Prepping Thread - A Newer Beginning ;)

I do lots of one-pan cooking, as it's much easier when trying to eat properly and work. Although much of it is in the oven. Half the battle with prepping is being flexible and not trying to do what you've always done when circumstances change. I'm always stunned by the number of people who seem to think they can't manage without bread or milk. There are millions (possibly even billions) of people in the world who get by without them. If you're worried you won't be able to manage without something in an emergency, maybe have a trial run now. What do you use milk for? What could you have instead? (There is no law that says breakfast has to be cereal and milk or toast... it could be cold meat or fish, or rice, or dahl... or anything really).17

Oof @MingVase I know how seriously Hogmanay is taken!
We had the heating engineer out on 23rd December to "service the boiler" before we moved in but the oil tank had run dry before we put 500L in and it took him all afternoon to prime the boiler before it would fire up - we were not popular!12 -
It was my fault too, we had the house and a fortnight to move in, but I thought it would be nice to start the new year in the new house..I did enjoy the camp cooking adventure, just pretended we were on a camping holiday. Agree with Shropshirelass, a lot of the good old favourites are one pot stuff - we liked stovies and hotpot.10

Anyone interested in developing their own recipes, might be interested in searching 'sea pie', 'potjie kos', and even 'scouse', and work out what your family will enjoy eating as part of your preps.Agreed.We'd get by quite happily with a camp stove & a 6 litre pressure cooker, add a nice kettle & frying pan & all the bases are covered.

The pump for our boiler packed up on the morning of Christmas eve last year fusing all the electrics downstairs. We called out Homecare who sent an electrician but said we would have to have a gas engineer for the pump. It was finally fixed at 11 p.m
I can remember an old man in the village where I grew up who still cooked all his food in one pot on a grid over the fire. This would have been in the late 1960s.13 -

Nothing more warming that a quick chunky veg stew on the cold wet miserable camping days.

I'd quite happily use a pot on a griddle over a wee fire Annie. I won't have a pressure cooker in the house though, not since mine blew up and splattered the ceiling with lamb gravy..
