I thought I would be ok for a turkey as I order every year from a farm shop and they don't depend on HGV deliveries. But the CO2 shortage will stop turkeys being slaughtered. I buy fresh and they won't be slaughtered till December but the frozen turkey that would start hitting the shops soon may be in short supply. But I see that the government s bribing the US firm to open up its fertliser factories asap so this shortage should be shortlived - unlike the gas shortageIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8

jk0 said:You know this government advice about not switching after supplier bankruptcy, is for their benefit, not yours. The switch is initiated by the firm you are switching to, and you give them your meter readings, so there should be no problem. When Economy Energy went bust a couple of years ago, I immediately switched to EDF, and it went through in a few weeks without any problem.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

FWIW we used to use buywholefoodsonline until we realised how much we were actually paying for the "free" delivery. For what we buy, we're always better off with wiltonwholefoods ...

We're okay for candles, last year I got 3 of the grandchildren to buy tealights for mum stressing
-that we had a mismatch between holders - mostly for tealights and candles we had in (mum had a few odd ones and I brought some pillar ones from home along with at least 3 boxes of cook's matches - stocked up because they seemed to disappear at one point)
-and we did not need any more fancy burners/ exotic perfumed floats etc (I asked for berry or vanilla/ cinnamon scents).
I bought wooden stands for pillar candles, 2 black metal holders for 'light me to bed' types, an led storm lantern (like the old paraffin ones we used to have in the outside toilet) and a Morrocan lamp that takes candles or a bulb. All with present money.
Currently looking for decent size terracotta plant pots and saucers to keep us warm if we have power cuts (the candles alone did a good job as I had them lined up on the windowsill, 3 'sideboards' and clustered in the hearth. Lots of spare bedding/ covers to keep us warm.
Mum has spare money (she's not rolling in money but has enough for the essentials and a few luxuries) and I think it's sensible to invest some of this in long life foods (tins, jars and dry foods obviously but crackers/ crispbread - modern equivalent of ship's biscuits, oaty bar type things and some 'just add water' sauces, pastas etc.) on the grounds that in a year the food will have much more value than the cash. I knew someone through my trade union and every year they asked for a reduction in hours (maybe only 10 minutes but it had been going on for so long that they finished at lunchtime on Fridays. His argument was that if you got a pound increase in wages then in a year that increase might only be worth eg 89p, if you got a reduction in hours then next year the extra 10 minutes was still 10 minutes.
Left to my own devices I'd have a lean to greenhouse across the width of the house at the back, similar (possibly a tunnel semi covered or with netting over for growing stuff) on the side of the house with solar panels on the top part of the gable, a woodburning stove, the front garden (only a patch) would have U shapes of holly/ edible hedging, with raspberries and finally blackcurrants nesting inside. If I get the time and energy I'm going to start guerilla gardening along parts of the canal bank (take any sprouting spuds and dig them in). Not bothered if other people use them - lots of people on the estate at the back with children and some pensioner couples, if they know what they are and can use them, it's fine by me.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage13 -
