Chard stems are also excellent in a stir-fry, but need to have the leaf stripped off & go in (well-chopped, like everything else) a couple of minutes before the more tender leaves. Just take a bit more cooking, that's all, and they look amazing. "PSB" also looks rather good in a stir-fry...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Fellow parent-of-Scouts is anticipating a busy half term. Family going to France to help daughter build confidence in spoken French before GCSEs & hopefully A level. I suggested that swift tour of the vinyards made sense - we're flying = then a reconnaissance & come back with the van the week after? So long as it's for personal use the limiting factora are the loading of the van & the budget. Alternatively, I suggested, he could rent a vehicle - the vinyards can decipher gesture pretty well after all, but leave the womenfolk loose without him to lug? The expression as he contemplated which would be better for his cherished daughter's language skills was delightful... (I presume it was her language & not his creditcard.)
We were both feeling the crack on with it, whatever, though. Presuming it gets to a vote it could all get even more messy so this half term has "Opportunity - seize it now" written large. (Even if the martian Rover can't anymore.)
I have prowled my back garden thinking where the Thompson & Morgan bare root foot & veg seeds might be best placed. We've cleared the kitchen windowsill for germination trays so it's a mixture of scheming & eyeing the pelleted chicken manure sack. Will it cope with being lifted or should we aim to re-bag it in situ then relocate it... Also, where's the respirator as while I can't smell it I can taste something in the air!0 -
Sorry DfV, that was a bit confusing. Are your family and the other parent-of-Scout's family both going to France together? Have a good trip, if so0

Hadn't thought of doing a cross-channel raid but come to think of it, I doubt their farmers will be able to continue to hop across to our market whenever there's a cheap ferry deal on... bother! Not able to go right now or until after the end of March.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

So sorry ivyleaf, not being clear - father-of-Scouts is taking his brood en vacance, I & mine are stuck here as I'm delivering training in Birmingham for two days. (Classic saying yes to work before checking the family diary, ahem, but at least the exam candidate isn't holding a grudge.)
In a way, perhaps just as well. Went over to see Mother in Law, took every child so a certain amount of fraternal bickering (oh lud), happy visit, came home. Unloaded the car & sudden wail of "where's my bag?" from the not-wholly-stable epileptic. As it contains All his meds. I left them to disassemble my car & quietly fired up the mobile - yes we'd left it there. Ah, right, I'll feed them & we'll pop back. So sorry to disturb you!
So we did get in another family meal albeit somewhat rushed. The lad & I loaded the car with several litres of pepsi max in tins, I reapplied the POWER checks (Petrol Oil Water Electrics Rubber) [all still there] & we set off.
The upside was we got to discuss music, he got a gentle earful on creditcards & why they can be useful or a complete evil nasty monster with a side order of the credit union is a lovely friend and he enjoyed the power to suggest Chug! to ensure I kept my caffeine levels up.
We got there & poor mother in law was holding the bag looking desperately ready for healing sleep so we just hugged her carefully several times & set back off into the night. Lad has agreed that a stash of his meds both at the family home and even a one day stash in my car is reasonable - and got most of the way there himself! (A proud moment in a long day.)
Please do not find yourself in a situation where you now have a 100 mile round trip for the next dose. It puts you in a vehicle you may or may not trust, on a road you may or may not want to travel again, when you are already a bit tired and where the conversation can be really difficult to wriggle out of. Prepping will protect you from some of this!

Anyone else got a bPay device?
They emailed me earlier saying they could not top up, but I have not been able to log on.
Anyone else having this trouble, or with Barclays?0 -
A quick tale of not being prepared..
Hubs sold our old car at the weekend.
The new owner paid , they shook hands and he hopped in to back it out of the drive only to discover the battery was flat.
It seems that manouvering a car out of and back into the drive for the last 3 or 4 months (to get other vehicles out and in)had not done anything to keep it charged .
Hubs has a charger box which is very handy. Its about 5 by 4 and 1/2 an inch deep and plugs into the lighter socket.
However...it helps if you know where it is.
After a frantic 10 minutes or so, he found it hidden under some wood on the stairs (dont ask).
Sighing with relief he took it out to the car and realised it was flat too, he hadnt seen it for months and the last time it was used was probably to get his bike started.
Eventually DS, new owner and hubs pushed the car out so new owners wife (hooray for prepped ladies) could jump start it with her jumper cables.
and the moral of that story is....make sure your preps are actually accessible and still useful for if and when...........0 -
Salutary lessons there, DfV and culpepper
Jk0 must admit I don't even know what one of those is, but hopefully some other posters do. Have you asked on the Techie board? I hope you're able to get in eventually!0 -

Thanks. Yeah, I was able to log in eventually last night and do a manual top-up.
Good job I still keep some pound notes, though, isn't it?0
