In my earlier days in the civil service, it was Izal type tracing paper and it had "Government Property" stamped on every sheet - was someone going to steal it?
I suppose there would have just about been that possibility if it were still being supplied in the last few weeks!16 -
Struth. You'd have to be hard up to steal Izal.I wonder if we'll have to open up the factory again if the EU make us go for No Deal?11

Well, the spouse no longer laughs at my toilet paper supply. He referred to it as extra insulation in the basement. I only have around 120 rolls. Just a habit, I pick up a bundle once a month when it's on sale and at a price I like.
Tea bags aren't a problem
If it were just the two of us, we're probably good for 2.5 months. But as both of our sons live within walking distance, we'd probably pool resources. One son has a coop in his yard. Produces 6-8 eggs daily. I suppose if it were really to hit the fan, we'd be able to cook a couple and keep the rest for production. Both sons hunt, so we'd be good. Rabbits, hares, deer and waterfowl are in the immediate area.

I remember Izal too, we used to use it as tracing paper as well as the intended purpose. My grandparents had Izal in the bathroom and always cut up newspapers in the outside lav.
When soft loo roll arrived, we all thought it was lovely and my mother took to hanging around outside the bathroom yelling three bits only at whichever child was in there.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back17 -

You were lucky; we used the previous year's Whitakers Almanack in the outside 2-holer, which usually led to whoever was in there yelling, "I'll be out in a mo - just need to finish this article!" Provided they didn't mind the drips from the pheasants hanging from the roof...Angie - GC Oct 25: £119.23/£400: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)11

Si Clist, logs are no good for heating. Sparky and not really hot, you're far better off with coal. Also you can bank a coal fire up overnight..
Wraithlady if things go to custard then there will be no local veg box... better plan without it.

As a child our house was heated with a stove than ran 24/7. It took HUGE logs, and required a certain amount of precision to ensure that each load lasted the right amount of time (you didn't want it going out when you were out shopping as if was a faff to relight). While I don't need to heat the house with my stove (and as it's on an outside wall it isn't ideal for it), I can keep it going overnight with logs if I want to. It's easier with smokeless, but can be done if you know your stove well enough.15
