I have one of those tins of active dried yeast which you are meant to use within 4 months of opening. Do they actually last longer than that or will they not rise?11

I am trying not to spend too much money as it is mum's money I'm spending (still fighting the decision that I am no longer entitled to tax credits, so my only income atm is Carer's Allowance of £67 pwk which goes in the bank and pays all the bills back at my house with DS3's contribution). However, I'm finding that in every case where I've stopped to think about a purchase, when I've gone back things have no longer been available. I haven't bought flour yet, because I have some but I am starting to buy tins for winter. I normally buy mum 10 or 12 of each variety of her favourite soups in autumn. It's something she can manage on days when I'm not here and if she's so ill she can't open a can of soup, she phones for me and I go to stay for a few days. As shops are mostly sticking to the maximum of 3 of each item and Tessimo have a limit of 80 items, I've instructed DS3 to buy 3 of each soup when he goes to do his shopping (never had a car, any of us, usually take a taxi to get to mum's with shopping but currently avoiding shops, taxis and buses to keep mum safe.
I did go in the little shop around the corner from home last Sunday but there were only 2 of us and it was easy to stay either side of the big freezer in the middle of the shop. I wouldn't go in the shop nearest mum's (noticed it was open again when I went to post some letters and cards for mum) as it's one of those with as much packed in as possible, short aisles set at right angles and even if they only let 2 customers in at a time, it would be easy to miss someone coming until they were on top of you.
I am planning for the next 6 months to 2 years (haven't told mum yet). I did have a little wobble late last week. I was trying to write a list of conditions under which mum's cleaner could come back (mid to late June) - basically depends on who she has been in physical contact with, just her husband or the grandchildren (especially if they go back to school which seems like utter folly to me - just think how difficult it is to eradicate nits from schools and then translate that to a virulent highly contagious disease)' would she wear gloves, a mask and something over her hair, mum and I would stay outside whilst she cleaned and then all the cloths/
solutions/ equipment would have to go straight into the washing machine or be left outside for 3 days.
I was trying to get it straight in my own head so that I can explain it to other people (mum, the cleaner - a member of the extended family). What do they say about common sense being a curse, because you have to deal with all the people who don't have it. When I said we were going into lockdown, mum was still making hair and nail appointments for in 4 weeks. The hairdresser was saying that if people were in lockdown for 12 weeks, some of her ladies might like a trim 6 weeks in and she had a mask. They have learnt differently now. I just worry that at the end of the 12 week period, all mum's regular visitors will be clamouring to be let in and no way am I taking that padlock off the gate until I decide it's safe.

Mothernerd, do your mum's favourite soups come in packs of 4? It would only count as one item.2025 Fashion on the ration

Hi, if you mean the tinned variety, with a plastic lid - when open, I keep it sealed in the fridge, and have had no problems.
