My Epson Stylus Photo RX520

It is a Printer/Scanner/Copier.Ive only had this since May of this year and i use the printer part mainly which is working fine, but even though ive only used the scanner part a limited amount of times it now isn't working properly. Here is a pic of what i mean.

Can anyone tell me what it could be wrong with it.Also with me only having it since may can i take it back to the store i got it from or do i have to go through the manufacturer.

  • Hi rotti

I had a very similar problem when I got mine about a year ago. Mine would scan about 2/3rds of the image fine but other 1/3 looked like your image. Was replaced via 'Cartridge World' (IIRC) who acted as Epson agents. They said it was a faulty scanner unit and that they had replaced a significant number all having the same fault.

My initial suggestion would be to return it via the store -- your contract is with them and they should repair / replace.
  • Thanks Billy Boy i just wanted to know in case the shop try to fob me off to the manufacturer.
  • Well as i suspected they fobbed me off, surely this isn't right.I bought it from them and have only had it since may.when i phoned them up they said i had to get in touch with Epson so they can troubleshoot the problem over the phone.

I know it isn't working as i wouldn't have phoned them up.Anyone tell me if i can just turn up at the shop with the product and demand a refund or a replacement.

Yes rotti1967, just turn up at the shop and ask nicely if they can resolve your problem. This may of course mean a repair. But the point is it is the responsibility of the seller to resolve this. I suppose they can ask the manufacturer to act as their agent in this matter, but they (the retailer) are responsible for selling you something which is fit for purpose.
  • Keith ive phoned epson up and they have told me to take it to a place near where i live so they can check it out.

Im not happy they take your money quick enough but when it comes to sorting out their faulty goods they fob you off.

When i take it to this place where they will check it out can i refuse to have it fixed, if it can be or not.Id sooner have a replacement if possible.

OK, so Epson need to see the thing before making any decision. Thats perfectly reasonable.
WHile it might be nice to get a new printer, you must be prepared to accept a repair. But it obviously depends on what they find when they inspect it. If it just needs a new lamp, say, it would make sense to just replace the lamp, for example.

I don't think you can refuse to have it fixed, or even demand a refund. You have had about six months use of the product after all.

If they find a fault which is more than just trivial, you may well get a replacement printer which may well be new.

When exactly in May did you buy this printer?
This might be important because during the first six months of ownership it is up to the seller to prove the product was ok at purchase time. After six months you, the buyer, has to prove it was faulty at purchase. But forget that for the time being... wait to see what Epson say.

  • I will have to check the receipt m8 to find out exactly when i bought it.As long as it gets fixed/replaced i will be happy.

Not sure if the bulb has gone as i can see the light as its scanning. Will it be ok to take the ink cartridges out when i take it to be repaired,as ive just put in a set of new inks and if the machine needs replacing i will lose my inks.

Ask Epson and see what they say, but i am not sure it is good practise to transfer inks from one machine to another..
  • I had to put 3 different inks in but its working fine now.The shop where i took it just looked at the receipt and gave us a new PSC which is nice.
