Disgusting, found out recently that they only refund in vouchers and this applies to sale and non sale items. The refund is your receipt and this can be easily misplaced.

Never been to Matalan. Do they claim to sell to businesses/members only? Are items priced ex-VAT and the VAT is added at the end? If yes then you're probably not classed as a Consumer so the full suite of consumer rights may not apply, rather their T&Cs will apply.

Members only yes sort of from day one but really nothing but a card .


Refunds as per CR /SOGA if a refund for a fault etc .
Refund change of mind entitled to issue vouchers .

I think most high street retailers give change of mind refunds in vouchers. They dont have to refund you at all. Spend more time deciding next time or buy online.

Depends on the circumstances of the return/refund. If the goods are faulty you are entitled to a refund. If is is just an exchange because you decided you didn't want it then they don't have to do anything, so an exchange for vouchers is reasonable.

I appreciate this is a 'vent' forum, but complaining that a company is 'disgusting' because it goes above and beyond your in store purchase rights is ridiculous!

(assuming not talking about a faulty purchase, but I think we all know they aren't...)

Next, Primark and M&S** all give full refunds for 'change of mind' in-store purchases returns (with receipt).


So do Debenhams and Clarks Shoes**.

Thats 5 of the 192,000 vat registered retailers. I stand by my comment.

And barely even that any more. I bought something the other week and forgot to take my wife's card. I said no when they asked if I had one, expecting to have to give wifey's details but they just rang up my purchase without another word.

If you return a single item bought as part of a multi-buy discount offer (for example buy 2 for £20.00) you will be refunded the full price of the item less any discount given in the offer. If you return all the items purchased with the multi-buy offer discount you will refunded with the full multi-buy value.
