Help... why are energy companies not billing me

I use the cheap energy club and believe in switching but since having a smart meter, which has never been smart and is dumb, with 4 companies now there has been a delay of about 8 months and a lot of frustrated chasing to get it sorted. I have ended up using the ombudsman twice! It is very hard in these circumstances to change suppliers and keep an eye on my energy consumption. Two things are happening as far as I am aware of from what companies tell me... They are retrieving the wrong meter off the database even though it says disconnected and then the 3rd party company they are using to validate the opening meter readings is taking way too long to do this. How can I avoid this delay? I already provide proof of the current meter

The truth is that I do not know why your supplier is not billing you. If you want to switch, then this is possible but the strategy is not guaranteed.
1. You need to ascertain the MPAN for your electricity and the MPRN for your gas supply.
https://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/guides/who-supplies-my-electricity-and-gas/
2. Confirm the EXACT address details held for the two meters.
3. Choose your next supplier and talk to then before initiating the transfer. I spoke to my present supplier and we agreed that they could takeover my two meters (both had incorrect postcodes), and once transferred they would update the two National Databases with the correct information.
4. If you are happy, then initiate the transfer with the supplier. Provide meter readings when asked. At this point, the losing supplier may block the transfer.
5. Wait for the first account from your new supplier which will confirm the meter numbers being used. If these differ from the ones in your cabinet then send in photos of the meters with serial numbers. Your new supplier will then update the Databases.
6. Your old supplier should then raise a Final Bill - or not.
I took this route 4 months ago when my supplier had issues setting up my new account. There has been absolutely no progress since I transferred my supply. I do owe my old supplier a little bit of money which is sitting in my Piggy Bank while I wait for The Energy Ombudsman to give a ruling. I am now being billed as normal by Octopus Energy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Be careful, when I needed to remortgage, I found out the E.ON sent bill through email, then sent 5 reports to Equifax, this destroyed my credit rating from outstanding to poor repayment conduct, call them and find out where the bills are because they will not reverse it and the consequences of their unfair and unreasonable reports is you cannot get insurance, have to pay higher rate for everything.0
