    The Estate Agent was correct.

I don't see why it shouldn't proceed with Ovo - they will be in touch asking for readings

Yeah but now I am thinking that if I am on a deemed contract with Eon they will put me on the highest tariff until the change goes over which is expected on the 11th of December meaning I will probably get a really expensive bill from Eon?

It's more like "Really Expensive". It will be around 20% more that the worst tarrif. Not worth worrying about for such a small time. And gas is cheap (relitively). It's electric that costs the most so you would more worry about using a lot of that.

You have pretty much tied yourself in now and it might cause more pain to stop the move. (If possible at this late stage).

Ok I understand. So can I just sit back & let the move over take place?

You obviously need to pay for the energy consumed from the date it became your property and E.ON has first call on that debt.
Phone E.ON and explain what has happened. Hopefully it will be sorted out so that E.ON bill you for energy from that date until the date OVO starts to charge you.
Please read for deemed contract details https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/moving-home-your-energy-supply/moving-home-dealing-with-your-energy-supply/

Yes but you can't avoid it. Its only a few days in comparison with a years worth of lower OVO charges.

PS When you have some better idea of your consumption put the figures through a comparison site and see how well OVO compare.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Gas central heating with radiators is the cheapest. In normal circumstances, in winter and boiler has been operating for about an hour, it uses about 3kW per hour. The same as a room gas heater of 3kW.
Heating your home is dependent on the radiators, in output and number. Also, importantly double glazing and wall/roof insulation.
The radiator output needs to be 3-4kW for say a lounge size room. If correctly sized the boiler/rad temperature need only be about 50C. Saving energy on the boiler energy.
A 3 bedroom semi uses from 15,000kWh gas per year
Gas meter: to convert from m3 (units) to kWh multiply by 11 approx.
Because of condensation, it is not always saving money by turning a radiator off. Turn the boiler temperature down, when not using the hot water.
    Regards

your £125/month does sound alot! (well ok for winter month)

for a gas and elec house it should be nearer £900/year. (£75/month)
assuming you are on a good tariff.

Looks at my bill, "No is doesn't" (Mine is £121). And really, do you think there is only one type of house in the country! I'm sure buckingham palace (as an extreme example) uses more than that.

However That is just for the last month what is has been cold. It is not an average DD payment. Still it can be worse, some people base their switch on usage during a hot summer month only!

Yes I know. It depends on many factors.
