Amex Complaint advise

Just looking for a little advise regarding the Amex Platinum Charge Card.

I've had it for a year or two and have had a few issues, Amex put incorrect information regarding it's Hertz benefits on its website (I need to check the welcoming pack if I can find it).

The website now states the benefits are
  • Up to 15% discount off standard rates, and up to 25% off Prestige Collection vehicles
  • One car-class upgrade whenever possible
  • Up to a four-hour grace period when returning the vehicle

However, added to this list was (6/7 months ago)
  • Drop off and Pick up within 15 miles
and until yesterday
  • Guaranteed vehicle availability

Both of these items have been removed after I contacted Amex about them as Hertz refused to let me use the benefits, it turns out these benefits haven't 'changed over time but they were incorrectly added onto the website and remained there for 1/2 years.

I've spent hours speaking with Hertz and Amex and both of them blamed one another.

Amex have no come back and just said sorry and corrected the site, I feel like I've wasted my time and furthermore who knows what else is wrong on their site.

I can't find any reference now to an "Amex Platinum Charge Card" on American Express' website (although there is an "American Express Platinum Business Charge Card").

It's not clear what you expect from your "hours speaking with Hertz and Amex". American Express has acknowledged and corrected its mistake in misrepresenting the benefits available.

Have you tried asking American Express for any annual fees to be refunded and your account closed?
  • It was an error.
They've since removed the erroneous information.

What else are you looking for here?

Which benefits did they refuse you to access? Did it cost you extra to use those benefits? Have you actually lost anything (money/time)?

An error it is and it should've been picked up when I made them aware of the other error on that page, Hertz is one of the main reasons I got the Plat card, I use it alot with work and the benefits made sense.

The two times when I've attempted to use two of the benefits they state I get I've not been able to, having to spend my time trying to work out who has got it wrong, speaking to multiple people who refuse to acknowledge an error or even say sorry leaves a bitter taste in ones mouth.

What I am looking for, I'm not sure. I just wonder what else on Amex's website is an 'error'

I've had the 'Drop off/Pick up' benefit refused 6/7 months ago and guaranteed availability refused last week.

I had to postpone going away as there were no cars local to me (last minute trip with the girlfriend, she's not had much time free and it just happened to work out) Yes, it's cost me more to rent a cottage, more to hire a car and pay for a train to collect it.

  • AMEX are pretty good at sorting things out like this. I think you just need to spell out to them what else you want them to do to make you happy. It you want compensating in some way just ask them but the best you will get is gesture of goodwill, they wont compensate for the costs above and I'm sure buried in terms and conditions it says so.

I generally ignore partner benefits as you often can get the same benefit without the card etc. and car hire is very competitive so you may even get better deals than the card offers.

Until you find something I wouldn't worry yourself about it - it's not worth losing sleep over.

if you're looking for compo then.. well.. I don't know why
